Anyone else notice that when Ray LaHood was speaking, his head covered the "H" on the US H(igh) S(peed) R(ail) sign, and it looked like he was standing under a big "USSR" banner? Kinda cracked me up...
I always have a few in the mix... currently on the nightstand:
Still the Best Hope: Why the World Needs American Values to Triumph – Dennis Prager - Extraordinary and enlightening… I think Dennis is the most clear and persuasive voice for conservative values in America.
Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World has Never Seen – Christopher McDougall - My third time reading this, I love it! Non-fiction with wonderful characters, thought provoking evolutionary hypotheses, and an inspiration like no book I’ve ever read.
Cain’s Legacy: Liberating Siblings from a Lifetime of Rage, Shame, Secrecy, and Regret – Jeanne Safer Ph.D. (fyi for NR fans... Jeanne is Richard Brookhiser's wife) - Just started this one… with its focus on the unique significance of sibling relationships, and my having nine siblings, it seemed a worthwhile read. Additionally (full disclosure!), I happen to personally adore Jeanne and Rick; I read everything this non-stop publishing machine of a couple write.
How to Survive the Loss of a Parent: A Guide for Adults – Lois F. Akner and Catherine Whitney - I’ve been reading this one for almost six months: read, cry, break, repeat. R.I.P. Dad

Well now, that's just not necessary. That's the way THEY talk. · 4 minutes ago
True. But they won · 5 minutes ago
This time, they won. Believe me, if he doesn't make it to another election... the bleeding hearts will re-elect democrats again, because they feel bad for them. We'll win again (not in Chicago, but in the country).
Mendel and Guruforhire are exactly right (comments too long for quoting...), to summarize: We are in a completely different global economy, and the progressive tax code is entirely immoral.
In the 50s we had billions of global customers and practically zero competition. We also had extraordinary domestic growth... people were getting married and having babies, the population was "booming".
According to Obama himself, the flat tax is the only right and fair answer. "Everyone should play by the same rules," he loves to say. I say, EVERYONE should PAY by the same rules. It's not a matter of whether or not the "wealthy" can afford to pay more, it is a matter of what is the right thing to do. I am nowhere near the $200k cut-off, but that has nothing to do with what's right. If taxes are going up for anyone, they should go up for everyone. I'll hate it. It will make a very significant difference in my life, but I'm not ok with making (remember taxing is not "asking") someone else pay my way. It's not the conservative way.
Roberto - I saw that, but it only informs your friends that you think they should purchase membership. I'm wondering if there is a place to buy a one year membership as a gift...
I share that feeling. Tremendously sad that MI was called so early for O. Never thought Romney would take it, but hoped it would be a challenge. Makes me way less enthusiastic about OH and WI (let alone PA). Still keeping fingers crossed and saying prayers.
Doh! Flash requirement. Still stuck in London hotel with CNN. Good thing I, at least, voted early in the battleground state of Illinois. Hopefully, I can enjoy at this election tomorrow...
I was just about to post the same question. I'm stranded in a London Marriott, with only CNN!! Please let s know if the live podcast is happening... I need a fix.
Well, Kevin... You've got me crying like a baby. When the time comes, I do hope he finds my father... Mine was born in 1931, his mother died in 1932. He lived for 5 years with a wonderful foster family, until they were one day away from finalizing adoption; his father changed his mind, and mid-Depression, brought the youngster home to a family of strangers. Dad worked hard, played baseball, finished college, served as a USMC Major in Korea, then wisely married my mother. Thankfully, after having nine children, they went ahead and had me to round it out at 10. He raised each and every one of us as committed conservatives (even me in my wanna-be hippie days, and my Peace Corp brother married to a very liberal, black, Obama supporter). He would have thoroughly enjoyed voting for Romney, and celebrating his victory, but it was not to be. He died 28 days ago, in my mother's arms. I think our dads will be pals.
Hang in there Kevin... I'll keep you and your family in my prayers. Semper Fidelis.
bagehot99: The downside of having minorities as the messenger, is twofold:
1) It continues the use of skin color as a valid factor in evaluating ideas, and
2) There's a reflexive tendency on the left to dismiss minorities who espouse conservative positions as Uncle Toms (or worse). As though you are not authentically black unless you also hold left wing political views. It's pretty much the Aryan Nation in reverse. · 1 minute ago

I agree, but if it does matter to some (right or wrong), it could hopefully be used for the uplifting and good, rather than for further claims of victimization and racism (i.e. Sharpton, Jackson, etc..). No matter what or how... it is certainly an uphill battle.
Perhaps it already happens to some degree, but I would love to see conservatives such as Allen West, Artur Davis, Mia Love, etc... on a hell-bent speaking tour through all the country's worst school districts.
P.S. Hoping to see Dennis at Northwestern tonight!!! For everyone in/near Chicago... Dennis Prager will be speaking at a free public event at Northwestern University tonight at 7:00. http://www.yaf.org/eventdetails.aspx?id=9616
Pig Man: I am a Obama supporter who joined this site to try to understand how the alternate conservative universe works. I was actually quite impressed with the intellectualism of most of the comments posted here. But when you start talking about Obama going "back" to his "native" Kenya where he was "really born" you lose all credibility and sound like a racist. · 3 minutes ago
PM, we appreciate the compliment and ask that you stay within the confines of our Code of Conduct, which exhorts all and sundry here to civility.
As for the Kenya reference, consider it another insight into our alternate universe: when conservatives as savvy as the ones we have here drop a reference like that, they're doing it as a tongue-in-cheek joke. · 3 minutes ago
PM: To borrow the President's tone; there's this thing called sarcasm...
As a rule, I'm opposed to early voting. However, this year I have a fantastic work opportunity in Europe on Election Day, and I'm gladly taking advantage of early voting. I live in Chicago, so I know I'm not changing the world, but there's no way I'd miss voting. I'm a traditionalist and like Election Day, but maybe a week or so does make sense given the global economy. However, this 6+ week option?!?! Voting before the first debate?!?! Disgusting.
