Looks like there's only a loose definition of "novelty songs" here. I doubt the Talking Heads considered any of their works part of the category...My immediate thoughts were of some oldies from my parents' 45 collection, such as "My Boomerang Won't Come Back" by Charlie Drake, or "Super Skier" and "Lizzie Borden" by the Chad Mitchell Trio.
I have one of those unkempt minds that starts processing statements as soon as the first few words appear, so as soon as I saw the title of your post, I'm thinking 2010, and the landlord is sending us a message that Jupiter is about to ignite and turn Europa into prime primordial real estate......but it's not. Dang. Nice sentiment, though.
I like the Bolton and Bibi options, but we had a saying in the family when I was growing up: If you want someone done right, you gotta do it yourself. Thus, me. Besides, I could use the raise.
| dash: Not to put too fine a point on it, could anyone really think that murder would have therapeutic effects? · 2 hours ago |
Well, yes, actually. There are many folks out there whose murders would be most therapeutic for me. Since murder sinful and illegal, however, I'll just have to rely on pharmaceutic therapeutics instead...
Looking back at the headline of this post, what Ricochet has done for me lately is to depress the hell out of me. Specifically, the section of the most recent flagship podcast about immigration reform. In the space of 20 minutes riding back from the store, I was reduced from "what a nice day, I'll take the dog for a walk, etc." to "our federal government is a failure, and populated by a ruling class that doesn't represent the people."I'm this close (holding thumb 1mm from forefinger) from joining a survivalist militia out in Montana. Anybody know of one that takes Jews?
| Jeff: The correct legal term is 'illegal alien'. That is the actual name for the status-at-law of persons who entered the country illegally. · 11 hours ago |
I thought it was "invader."
Of course they're endorsing live birth abortion. Anything to keep the wrong people from breeding; true to their eugenic mission.
I've always been partial to "Panama" by Van Halen. Anything with a decent banjo part seems to encourage high speed also (possible the influence of watching the Dukes of Hazard as a young-un).
Please don't ask the justices to be consistent or otherwise make sense. They've spent the better part of the last century constructing a massive constitutional house of cards, and unless you're one of 'em, or a distinguished law school faculty member with the right friends, you have no right/it's too late to blow it all down. Just keep quiet and pay your taxes, and everything will work out fine.

Re: The Continuing Relevance of the Founders
Mr. Carter, I cannot sufficiently express my admiration for your writing without lapsing into well-intentioned profanity (I am from NJ, after all), so I'll just stop here. Good post.
