As I am reading this I am hearing a Ryan/Rubio ad promoting the immigration bill claiming it is "serious conservative reforms".  I am so sick of hearing the phrase "from out of the shadows"!  They use it twice in the ad.

Obviously that clip is about the IRS scandal but Stewart drops hints that he thinks the right is nuts to think there is any kind of cover-up over Benghazi.  For him to still push that given the evidence is just ludicrous.

Kevin Williamson has found that the IRS story could have been purposely planted (http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/348280/question-launched-irs-scandal-planted) which makes one wonder if it is a diversion, and Stewart is playing his part.

Metalheaddoc: the anti-establishment narrative (esp anti Reagan) pervades 80s metal. Everyone had some anti-war song cuz...ya know...war is bad and stuff.  Some of those guys got older and more mature in their world view. But, back then, it was basically the usual liberal tripe. A dorm room BS session set to music.  How many songs lamented the plight of the Indians?

Speaking of the 80s...Arabs have been bad guys longer than anyone except Nazis. Even Russians have fallen by the wayside. How many bad guys were Arabs in those 80s movies? Off the top of my head...Back to the Future, Iron Eagle,  Delta Force, Death before Dishonor, etc.  · 18 minutes ago

I think Gene Simmons may have played an Arab villian in the Tom Selleck flick "Runaway".  (Too lazy to IMDB it.) · 0 minutes ago

Should have checked it first.  His character's name was Luther so I am probably wrong.

I suggest folks play the YouTube video, and if you are not interested in the song, skip to the last full minute to hear the sound bites.  If nothing else, its pretty neat hearing The Gipper talking tough.

Can anyone imagine President Obama using any of those words above?

Words to that effect could in fact pass through his lips.  He would never saythem, only sighthem... · 4 minutes ago

...with all the peevishness of a professor receiving a Caffe Mocha when he clearly ordered an Expresso Machiato.

After typing the above blog entry, I realized to the extent that Obama has continued some of the Bush policies overseas, I cannot really say he is weak in that area (drones etc.).

However, I should have been more specific and said he is weak in his rhetoric with countries like Syria and North Korea, and his paralysis  in places like Libya while our ambassadors are under siege.

Give Me Liberty: It is hard for me to listen to Gingrich critique the last presidential election when he had a chance to defeat Romney and he chose to go after him from the left with an anti-capitalist screed.   And Gavin Newsome is a fraud; his modernity jag is just his attempt to find his own third-way.  But he is all big government  lefty under his nice new modernity paint job.  Adam Carolla, a political rank amateur, took him apart on his podcast. · 1 hour ago

I listened to an Adam Carolla podcast wherein he hosted Newsome plugging his new book.  I assume it was a different episode from the one you describe because Carolla was pretty polite toward Newsome in the one I heard.

Also, about Gingrich: 1) He still seems to harbor some bitterness and came off a bit small in his shots at Romney 2) Maybe its my pessimism but a lot of what comes out of Gingrich's mouth smacks of him trying to dazzle everyone with, um...horsehockey.

A couple of thoughts on the first half of the podcast (I had to pause it when Bob Costa came on):

  • What will it take for Newt to mention Gingrich Productions?  The man really needs to learn how to promote his wares.
  • Methinks Newt's plane departure came at an opportune time for him to punt on Rob's question and make a hasty exit.
  • About that Outbox service.  I still don't get it.  There will be someone physically opening my mailbox (the one next to my driveway and street) and scanning my incoming envelopes?  Isn't there a federal law prohibiting that sort of thing?

I live in a town adjacent to Manchester, NH.  This guy is making our state look bad.  I find it hard to believe this is the first time or the last time he will be taken for a ride.  And if you know you are on camera for TV news, do you really want to be holding that ridiculous Rasta-banana?

Maybe I'm just a snob, but ever since I was a young man, every time I'd see one of those mall parking-lot, mobile carnivals, I'd run the other way.

I think Ann Coulter would have something to say about Mr. Podhoretz's comments about Senator McCarthy.

I realize there is some competitive rivalry between Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity etc., which would weigh against those guys wanting to acknowledge what Beck is pushing with this Saudi guy being on the "watch list" or "no fly list".  I wonder at what point does the story get too big for Beck's rivals to ignore.  So far, from what I can tell, they are having no problem ignoring Beck's "scoop".

I must not be friends with the right people on Facebook because I didn't see that picture until now.  :-(

Golden Dawn is also classically fascist in their love of the use of the mob and the fist.  There are many illegal immigrants from Africa in Greece, and there are many who commit petty and not-so-petty crimes.  Golden Dawn is taking over from the cops, who do next to nothing, and are extra-judiciously beating and punishing Africans.

Of course shopkeepers are rightfully upset, but when order breaks down and justice is doled out by shaved-head bully boys, I'm not going to call that "rule of law" by any means.

They also don't seem to care what their public image is. · 48 minutes ago

Nothing above equals right-wing.

Joseph Eagar: Of course Golden Dawn is right wing.

To Shane McGuire's point, where is the evidence they are right-wing?  Because they are doing the Nazi arm thingy and the original Nazi's did that too?  The original Nazi's were actually national socialists.  Have you read Jonah's book Liberal Fascism?

Rightfromthestart

Peabody Here: Just started listening to this and I am about 15 minutes in.  Of course, Rob is unfortunately correct that the Democrats got a lot of huge things done in the past 50 years resulting in the culture getting more and more liberal and government getting larger and larger.  During the same period, conservatives have had relatively few small victories.

Conservatives have been successful, at times, in merely slowing down our inevitable slide toward socialism and the welfare state. · 1 hour ago

I must quote the great Derb : 'Our victories are few and fleeting, while theirs are many and permanent.    · 1 hour ago

Also to quote Derb: " We're doomed...doomed."
