As long as they stay away from that damnable "team study" garbage.  I have 2 co-workers who are getting MBAs online.  They both complain about the team study stuff.  They end up having to complete assignments for others on their "team" that slack.  More work for them, same grade for the "team".

Dan Hanson: [...] In addition, you can bet that the knives are coming out in Democratic circles as prospective 2016 contenders seek to distance themselves from the failing administration and/or establish their bona fides as 'honest politicians'.   Expect some of them to be shocked and outraged that such things are going on. · 39 minutes ago

I wonder where that leaves Hillary.  She is waist deep in one of the scandals.

All these stories will fade away just like others in the past. The only thing that will cause any change is jail time and fines for high level apparatchiks that authorized the misdeeds.  Two chances of that happening...Slim...Fat.

That memo is NOT blacked out.  They just used a black highlighter to emphasize certain sections.

" We've now gone from "small beginnings" to huge scandals that pour forth from the beltway as if from a national sewer"

As perfect a summation as anyone could produce.  Unfortunately, many (most?) Republicans in D.C are included.

"Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, and creative, and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted."

BHO uses "we" in the quote to imply that "these same voices" don't trust we citizens who make up the electorate.  Actually, the "same voices" don't trust the "we" who are members of the BHO administration.  And that is justified.

The funniest movie ever ... Airplane.

I was back from college for Christmas and the whole family was watching it on TV.  In one transition shot they they showed the jet flying along.  It cracked me up.  My mother couldn't understand what was so funny.  I had to point out the sound of the propeller type motors to her.  She was as funny as the movie.

I think I enjoyed your trip around almost as much as you did.  I was laughing right along with you.

I lived about a half mile from the Daytona track for a while.  The pre-race trials, the qualifying and then...The Race.  Loud from a half mile away.  Deafening at the track.  It's amazing how much the TV microphones quiet the sound.  Of course the tiny TV speakers couldn't do it justice anyway.

I ran a Radio Shack in the mall across from the track (walking distance) at the time.  We sold Hundreds of $20 headphone radios (clamped hard over the ears tuned to local radio station for the race) dozens of $200 programmable scanners (programmed to your favorite driver and the expected rival teams) dozens of cheaper 5-band scanners (gotta have the crystal for your favorite team...and the bad guys, too) and tons of batteries.  I LOVED the D-500 and the Firecracker 400.

I know the video of your drive will get played again and again anytime you need a lift.  What a hoot!  BTW...what did you think of the way the race ended?  Was that some great driving?

Is it too soon to start investing in companies that build / sell / operate nat. gas powered generating equipment?  The Chinese are going to need a lot of generation stations to feed their large country.

DocJay: What did the lawyer say when she stepped in feces? I'm melting! Palaeologus, I've spent my whole life from birth on in the medical world and would rather associate with that group from an ethical and moral standpoint than any other. Bad eggs in every profession but very few professional liars in mine. · May 7, 2013 at 10:45am

DocJay, I would be pleased if you would comment on how the legal profession via lawsuits has effected your individual career. I understand that ridiculously high malpractice insurance plays a role.  What other things have you seen that a non-medico would not know about?

Daniel Jeyn: I enjoy the feedback on this thread of the unserious tomfoolery.

But in the dry spirit, I say in completely unironic monotone that over-litigation is a serious problem in the U.S.   DeTocqueville recognized that a flaw of our system was that it was too dependent on lawyers to function.

1) We should instigate loser pays statues in civil law.

2) We should legislate caps on tort compensation.

3) And we should severely curtail the boundaries of civil forfeiture.  (Last one a slop bucket for us Libertarians.)

Are there any candidates on the conservative side of the aisle to make this argument?  Or does our side depend too much on lawyers to do our bidding in government, too? · 7 hours ago

John Dean made the comment that every one of the men in the room (maybe a dozen as I recall) advising President Nixon regarding the Watergate "problem" was a lawyer.

kohana: Pilli: "But how many have hit the "legal lottery" as a result of hot coffee they spilled through their own carelessness?"

Sorry for the delayed reply.  Life got in the way.

I partly agree with the premise that there needs to be a way to make companies accountable for harm done as a result of negligence on their part. I don't think "Lottery sized" rewards are the answer.  Those kinds of rewards encourage bad behavior on the part of citizens and of the lawyers who troll for those types of clients.

While correcting the behavior of misbehaving entities is laudable, the trolling for clients we see in TV ads "Have you been injured?  Call me." cannot be good for the profession nor America.

John Edwards won a suit in 1985 and used that as a springboard to launch 20 more winning millions.  That encouraged others to seek him out in the hopes of winning millions, too.  One family even campaigned for him.  Yes, they thought he was worth it.  The medical practices he trashed through his legal chicanery...not so much.

What of the other MDs whose insurance rates have skyrocketed as a result of these awards?

Consider recent elections where Republicans / Conservatives (they're not the same) have lamented, "If only we had a better candidate."  Don't try to count.  It will just give heartburn.

In SC at least, the Democrats can now share the same lament.

See!  Republicans aren't the only "Stupid" party.

The 60's...Anything rock.  I listened to it all.  A musical sponge.  The high school mind at its apex.  "Huh, we have a test in English today?  When was that announced?  2 weeks ago?"  "Hey, Louie, Louie's on.  Turn it up!"

The 70's...Acid rock, Beatles, anything loud and heavy.  Beer makes its appearance in life.  Beer, pizza, loud rock, great conversational debates about the hugely important things in life like whether the MG was better than the Triumph.  Lots of laughing.

the 80's...Disco! You wouldn't know it by my picture but I was a PARTY ANIMAL!  (Well, maybe you can tell.) Almost every night.  The Bee Gees and KC just to kick things off.  Dance till closing.

The 90's...Jazz.  Whew!  Let's chill out, listen and have a glass of wine.  Listen to the way those guys are throwin' it back and forth.  Listening for the complexity.

Now...Still jazz.  Although some of the Latin sound has crept in via Strunz and Farrah, Jesse Cook etc.  I like some of the old Vibraphone and Hammond B3 sounds on a Sunday after early Mass.  No need for vocals, just good music.

There's no amount of shame sufficient.

By the very nature of being a "psychic" there can be no shame.  See BrentB67 above.

GLDIII: Mine is the airplane I stared at for 8 years while building it in my basement. It seems like a significant chunk of my personal ethos, plus I think it is more interesting to looks at than my mug.  The image is from the day it took it first taxi test. Perhaps I should change it to this one which was it's maiden flight.

It celebrated it's first birthday four days ago, · 5 minutes ago

How'd you get it out of the basement? · 7 minutes ago

He flew it!

It just makes sense.
