Duane Oyen: What happened to Emily's Acculturated, Young Guns, and Left Coast-Right Coast?  The podcast graveyard...... · 12 hours ago

And let's not forget Paul Ryan's own 'Prosperity Podcast' that was presented here on Ricochet just once.  On July 26, 2011, Ryan interviewed some guy named Rubio for 15+ minutes.

No offense to Ben, but I want Ryan back with his own show!

Hey, if the man who called Cruz a 'whacko bird' (and also happened to be born outside of the United States) can run for President without question.....

I voted for him for Senate, so he has my vote if/when he gets the nomination.  What I will enjoy the most is how the left descends into the rankest Birtherism.  It will be so delicious....

As a semi-serious query....can a man apply for the job?  Or would the bureaucratic feminist cabal that no doubt came up with this idea faint at the thought?

Charles Allen

Not that I have a dog in the fight, but I think the fine people of Florida might object to being labeled 'Disneyland', instead of 'Disneyworld'...

"There must be a pony here somewhere."

Hah!   Dave, I love that parable.  I told it at my last promotion ceremony...

Charles Allen

I did like how the DoEd tried to blame it on the Bush Administration....

"This feature, which automatically generates one education-related quote per day from a database of quotes last updated in 2007..."

Either that, or their point was the DoEd actually thought Mao was an acceptable role model until 2008.

Charles Allen

And one more piece on the ultimate endgame:

"DEMOCRATIC LOBBYIST: “The worst-case scenario for us is the sequester hits and nothing bad really happens. And Republicans say: See, that wasn’t so bad.” So I guess we can expect the Administration to make it as bad as it can."

And this is why the administration is willing to let their own people of take the hit (or be the human shields).  Because no one who takes a 20% pay cut will be willing to say "That wasn't so bad."

Charles Allen

Here is some more food for thought:

"...today’s federal employee has gone without a cost of living rise since 2009, so via inflation he makes less today than four years ago."

And now a 20% cut?  Fabulous...

Remind everyone you talk to on the subject who it was who came up with the idea of Sequestration.  It wasn't the Paul Ryan administration.   And remind those same people of who it was that decided cutting DoD civilians was better than other better cuts.  It wasn't the John Boehner administration.

And also remind them of this quote from a Senate confirmed DoD overlord: "It's slightly embarrassing, but it's true by law.  Senate-confirmed political appointees are exempt by law"

Now I can only speak from a DoD perspective, and don't know how other federal agencies will handle their cuts, but one big hit to GDP will be when 800k DoD civilian employees take what is in essence a 20% pay cut from 1 April - 1 Oct.

Hopefully, that will prevent outright layoffs.  Moving forward, there are certainly a few ways that the DoD can encourage some in its top-heavy civilian force to retire early...

But until then, the economy will lose a lot of personal spending from a big chunk of patriotic Americans...

Jerry Broaddus: Note to people whos senators may be named Boxer or McCaskill, or who may live where the NYT is delivered daily:

You are very welcome to move to the state of Texas and to have your interests well represented by Ted Cruz.

I have made this argument elsewhere on Ricochet...but in the heck would we want people who put Boxer/McCaskill/Cuomo/etc into office, to move to Texas?  Let them keep their poor judgement in their own states, and not risk infecting Texas with their progressive proclivities....

Yes, there are fine Conservatives in those states whom we would more than welcome to Texas.  But they need to stay there and help rescue them from their fellow voter's idiocy.  Otherwise those states will never have any chance of righting themselves (so to speak).

Dang.  He capitulated quicker than a member of the GOP House leadership...

After posting on his original statement yesterday, I was very disappointed to see he revision today.

"Finances and taxes are a personal matter, and I should not have made my opinions on them public," Mickelson said in a statement released late Monday night. "I apologize to those I have upset or insulted, and assure you I intend to not let it happen again."

First off...BS.  Even in California an individual still has rights under the First Amendment.  Even if taxes were a truly "personal matter", one would still have the right to makes one's opinion public.  I am not sure how one can "insult" another person by stating that you think your state's tax environment is untenable.  Millions in his home state have already done so...

I am not sure what residency requirements Not JMR is talking about. Move to Texas, buy/rent a place, get a drivers license, and voila! You are a proud Texas resident. As far as the larger question of inviting Blue Staters to move to Texas goes, I think it is a double edged sword. There is a reason states like CA and NY have gone to hell, and it is because their residents have voted to make it that way (consciously or unconsciously). Why then would we want to invite them in to screw up Texas? Stay in your Blue State and enjoy which yee have sown....

Joseph Paquette: The double standard is very clear.

Hey, if Liberals didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards at all...

Hartmann von Aue: I have to say, I disliked IPAs until I had Sam Smith's IPA. I am now open to the possibility that an IPA can be a drinkworthy beer.

I am a Hop Head, as I love IPAs.  Until recently I disliked Trappist ales, but they have been growing on me....

Like Ryan, I too brew my own beer.  And I must say that some of the best beer in the world (along with the worst) can be beer that you have made by your own hand.

But thankfully the craft beer industry is going strong with many worthy labels that everyone should try.  If I had to pick right now, I am smitten with most anything that Rogue does.  Last night I had their Yellow Snow IPA, and on Christmas Eve I had this:

I also have a clone of Rogue's popular Dead Guy Ale that I brewed in primary fermentation.  Here is my label:

Old Iron Pants v.3

Beer is fun....
