DocJay: It just so happens I did a physical on a former high level college football player whose son is currently in the NFL. We called the boy/ giant man and asked him about gay players in the locker room. He said it would go over like a lead balloon and that the black players would never (emphasis) accept this. · 19 hours ago

I have no doubt it would present a problem and I loathe media for trying to hasten it.  The narratives certainly have been prepared (dumb jocks, locker room culture) and I suspect many sportswriters harbor contempt for their subjects.

Can't see Hillary or Obama falling on their swords on this one.  I also can't see someone stepping up in their stead.  Here's to hoping the focus remains on what happen and not politics.

Casting marriage as an antiquated institution isn't a shield from the consequences of doing so.

Frank Soto: ESPN drives me nuts when these non sports stories come up.  I swear that half of the staff at that network just wishes they were "real" journalists.  So whenever they get a story like this they latch on for days.

I don't care about an irrelevant NBA player.  I do care about the playoffs.  You know, the whole reason we follow sports.   · 17 hours ago

E:60 is the worst.  It almost feels like an SNL skit.

I take Rob and John's points less as criticism and more as a finger on the cultural pulse.  Right or wrong in their interpretations, no doubt politics are downstream.

tabula rasa: Does anyone care about these "shocking" revelations anymore?  At any given time, there are close to 400 players under contract in the NBA.  One of them is gay. Big deal.

We're to the point now that a truly shocking revelation would be for an NBA player to shamefacedly admit that he's married to the mother of his children and believes in fidelity (then he could shake the foundations of the world by admitting that he believes in God). · 9 minutes ago

Like the above linked Chris Broussard (I know, not a player)?  Quite sure FLOTUS doesn't have his back.

You know what they say. Women need a reason to have sex, men merely a place.

Yawns abound.  Nobody really cares about this other than sportswriters/broadcasters.  I have been reading for years columnists and reporters speak of pro athletes as being painfully behind broader society and in dire need of education and tolerance.  Imagine the smug moral superiority of these jock sniffers who look down their noses at the very athletes responsible for their jobs.  Strange as it sounds, the length of time it took for an active male player to come out has actually made it anticlimactic.  A quick note regarding tolerance, it has been widely commented upon that Collins' future is quite bright due to having come out.  Consider that when society is described as homophobic.

Rawls: Heads up everyone, these are all great examples ofportmanteaus, which, by definition, are all neologisms I suppose. Love me a good portmanteau.

Portmanteaus is my dog's name! Just kidding, it's Lucy.

Nope.  In fact there is a neighbor of mine who has a hand written cardboard sign attached to their mailbox stating "no phonebooks".  It's there year round.

KC Mulville: Does anyone use phone books anymore? · April 27, 2013 at 7:07pm

A collection of conclusions and assumptions that leaves nothing better understood.  Pedagogy by way of emotive catharsis delivers sincerely felt nonsense.

Trying out the "hands off" approach.

Look ma, no clue!

Upward!

Dennis Prager often plays a clip of Rachel Maddow saying to David Letterman that she thinks gw is extreme weather of any kind.  Leaving aside the truly asinine logic, she herself makes a climate point using weather events.

I take the Constitutional points that prefaced the question as directed in part to the Senator, but also as a matter of record.  He likely knew she couldn't/wouldn't answer.  Sen Feinstein should have just answered the question in the fashion than Durbin did.
