"I loathe our news media for making the important irrelevant and the ridiculous praiseworthy."
Well stated. Yet I believe we also have to blame ourselves. We have elevated the small, thinking that somehow that would balance things and what we have done is make those that are somehow larger, irrelevant.
Every aspect of our lives these days is affected by the high price of mediocrity. Of false image and pretending that we are all equal in outcome. They started to bang the drum when they perverted the words of MLK from "the content of their character". We have since started only to identify people by the exterior they presented.
Jason Collins as a man should be evaluated on his humanity and what he does with his life. As a ball player, he should be evaluated by how he played the game. I wish him the best as I would most human beings. But he is not a hero.
Now had he come out when he first knew about his orientation...that would have been taking a risk.
And still...we haven't yet come up with a good explanation of why there is such a disconnect between "Republican" elites and main stream conservatives.
Republicans co-opted conservatism by acting conservative at one time. When Republicans lose they are just as likely to blame it on conservatives as they are on the Democrat liberals they usually face. The problem is that Republicans are not the party of the right...they are more in the center. And by attacking the conservatives as much as liberals do, they are loosing that entire spectrum to the right.
Talk radio, for the most part, might be preaching to the choir. At the same time, they are trying to explain to Republicans why they are failing to lead....and that is because they are not grounded in ideas, only grounded in winning. Talk radio didn't cause that...the corruption of having power and wanting to keep it at all cost, does. Talk radio is attempting to pump up the right until they find a leader who is worthy of a conservative's vote.
What are the chances that talk radio understands conservatism better?
Sometimes I think the main stream Republicans define themselves as conservatives simply because they are not Democrats. They are more conservative then liberal, but that doesn't make them conservatives.
I generally like Luntz, but I am not sure that even he has a clue about a large portion of the country.
Temple-Raston explained that the month ofApril was “a big month for anti-government and right wing individuals,” citing Hitler’s birthday, the Columbine school shooting, the Oklahoma City bombing and the assault on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco.
Apparently April is also a big month for Muslim Chechens living in the US with Jihadist YouTube channels. · 4 hours ago
Ignore the religion and center all your thoughts on the fact that they are true Caucasians. Now Tempe-Raston makes sense. Another hyphenated writer.
I hear you, but don't you think Obama held (and holds) an unprecedented and, I believe, unmatchable degree of power because of his race? "White Guilt" was a huge factor in people falling over themselves to support such a far, far-left, obvious lightweight as Obama.
I just don't see the same level of "guilt" or sense of obligation when it comes to a woman. · 45 minutes ago
I think you might have a point here. They nailed Hillary when she went up against Obama. It wasn't pretty. Hillary learned from that. It would be a real cat fight between the two...and there would be no limits on attacks as there was with Obama.
Remember, being Black means you get to attack other blacks without fear of racial charges. Being a women means about the same when it is two women in contention.
skipsul: I am amazed that the advice on letter 1 was delivered without the ample opportunity for punning. Personally if asked at a dinner party I would risked being slapped just to say:
Well, I've not kept abreast of developments around here, but I'm happy that you've sought such immediate full-fillment, though I would not advise that you keep trying to milk the party for praise. Must say though, this party has been quite mamorable. The fruit tray was quite good, don't often seen plums on display.

Followed by "How about the weather?" Never mind, I can tell you are cold.....
One observation I made at the time was that at least among the Cubans I came across, those that were Black were always referred to as Cuban, not as Blacks. They attended schools that were predominately white along with the children of other refuges.
Black Americans were Blacks, Cuban Blacks were Cuban. That is how they self defined and filled out paperwork. If there was some sense of underclass by color among Cubans at the time, it wasn't readily apparent to many of us who were in Miami at the time. If the initial impression I had was wrong, it was at least my first impression.

The law of unintended consequences at last applies to them....and they don't like it.
