Guilty secret: I actually look forward to this podcast than the Ricochet flagship podcast. Do subscribe if you haven't already

"They [the left] would rather the poor were poorer as long as the rich were less rich" -- Thatcher

Smart kid

I agree with Sean Penn. Chavez certainly was a champion of the poor - at least judging by his contribution to swelling their numbers.

MLH: a quirk of Ricochet is that posts composed on an iOS device, as mine was, seem not to post correctly; the body goes missing. It happened to me once before, although on that occasion the post (which also had no body) generated 27 comments, which remains a source of some pride. (One of them was, "Perhaps GreenCarder got deported before he completed his post")I guess I just assumed that the problem would have been corrected by now.

With the number of dog whistles we conservatives are supposedly hearing these days it's a wonder any of us can even write a coherent post

"Today, I delivered a load of scarecrows to Philadelphia. I had originally assumed that I was carting a trailer full of freshly registered Democrat voters up here for the next election, but I see now that I was mistaken. Evidently, the left needs a few more straw men to debate, since they don't ask the sort of questions we pesky conservatives ask, untutored as we are in elementary ad hominem. "Outstanding.

I would be willing to pay more. But there are lots of other fine ideas too. I particularly agree with the comment of Editors driving participation on threads they've started by engaging more with members on the comment thread.

If this is what constitutes 'Winning the War', I'd hate to see what losing looks like.

The electorate baffles me.  How can such an emphatic repudiation of Obama's and the Democrats' governance in 2010 be reconciled with the re-election of the same, deeply flawed president in 2012, when little has changed in between (at least not for the better)?

That bottle of Makers must be close to empty by now, no?

Just pulled the lever for my renewed annual subscription.  $29.95 for a year of Ricochet, the flagship podcast *and* a National Review subscription might just be the last great deal in America.

Rick, even if we lose in two weeks' time, thank you for letting me spend those two weeks in an optimistic mood.

Let's keep in mind that Reagan not only faced a Democrat majority in the house; the Speaker was Tip O'Neill, a bitter partisan who was determined to fight Reagan at every turn if he could. This said, I dearly would love to take the Senate. With the lack of a budget for over 3 years while the nation's economic ship has drifted towards the rocks, I feel that Harry Reid has been almost as malign an influence on American public life as Obama. Unseating him as majority leader would be huge.

I spent 2 weeks there last April for business and I think you've taken the measure of the place just right, George. To me, the sheer atmosphere of opportunity - and the sense of urgency to exploit it - was remarkable. And a jarring contrast with the status quo back home.

Great letter, Dave.

Several days before the debate much was made of the fact that Axelrod, for my money one of the most odious individuals in politics, was taking over the VP's debate preparation.  I think Biden's whole performance had the Axelrod (& Alinsky) fingerprints all over it.
