I am ELCA from the old Norwegian side and many of us are conservative. BUT, the ELCA is flaming liberal. Individual churches can be quite conservative. Thanks to all who marched. I was into high res ultrasound in the 80's and I observed beating fetal hearts VERY early in pregnancy. I also have an adopted child that might have been the victim of RvW.I can remember walking down Market Street in San Francisco at the conclusion of a "Luther League" convention singing "Onward Christian Soldiers!" Couldn't do that today. Mollly, I'd love to talk church doctrine and politics with you!!
The word "look" before a pundits statement. Also " folks" by Obama. Either or both of these may have been mentioned but I was too lazy to go through every comment!
As a graduate of a top notch Minnesota school, St. Olaf College, I have seen the college become "progressively liberal" over the past fifty years. I have been to Hillsdale five times plus multiple other Hillsdale events. I have conversed one on one with Peter Robinson and Paul Rahe to "name drop" plus countless others that make the trek west of Detroit to lecture. I foundly remember one evening Jonah Goldberg took questions from a small group of us old timers way past everyone's bedtime. It is the best education I have had in retirement and I am refreshed and enthused after every Hillsdale event!
Not completely true. Yes, they have private security but in situations of crowds and protests that can turn violent it is the responsibility of the host country to provide additional security.
Glad to see a couple of comments. I thought no one cared! The hatred for George W. Bush remains pathologic on the left. Recently Michael Kinsley had an op-ed piece about the Citizens United decision and in the narrative mentioned Bush v. Gore "which upheld the theft of the 2000 presidential election!"
William E. Simon's (along with Edith Efron) "A Time For Truth." The preface was written by Milton Friedman and the foreword by F.A. Hayek. He was the Treasury Secretary in the mid 70's and the "energy czar." One brief quote "I kept struggling to make the government grasp that it was the architect of our disasters." Gary Wolfram of Hillsdale College is the William E. Simon Professor of Economics.
In one month it will be our 50th. We had a church wedding in a small farming community between grain harvest and potato harvest! Now our two girls want to have an old fashioned church 50th reception for us. This is unusual in a big city. Our kids asked us where we were going to take them on our 40th? I said an old fashioned car trip to Yellowstone and the Black Hills. C.J. Box would appreciate that kind of trip. The highlight, a full breakfast fixed for us by friends after a short hike in a huge valley just outside Yellowstone. Simple is wonderful and as you can see nothing beats "old fashioned."
I went to the Montreal Olympics. By far, Track and Field! No subjective judging. Sports that don't rely on the subjective whims of a judge are the best.
This is a long post with lots of comments. I skimmed all the posts and did not come across my high school classmate Gary Paulsen. Most fifth and sixth grade boys have read "Hatchet" the type of book that can get the non reading boy to begin reading...adventure! I agree with the previous post about the "habit"of reading. I always have something to read by my side!
Good description! There is a problem with your description of the laproscopic cholecystectomy. The scopes go in the abdomen and not the chest. Yes, a scope may be close to the rib cage, but not through the chest. The catheter is the worst part of any surgical procedure, whether male or female and yes, walking hastens recovery.
I was at a speech by Dr. Krauthammer this week (in Minnesota) and met a couple on their iPad's who had not heard of Ricochet. New converts! The quality and international coverage of Ricochet is unmatched. It is my first click throughout the day along with my hometown Powerline. Thanks to Peter and Rob and all the Editors...and contributors .
Big battle in Minnesota attempting to stop vacation home owners or for that matter normal home owners in vacation areas from renting privately. Also there are cities that will allow only so many rentals in an area. Private property rights?
Point one: The NCAA should not have this power. Point two: there are exempt teams...Florida Seminoles. Pro teams...Washington Redskins, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Blackhawks. Unfortunately in Minnesota all the high schools with Native American nicknames were forced to change. In Canada there is a long memo to all schools on the correct usage of either First Nation or aboriginal. Political Correctness!
Re: A Valentine's Day Playlist
Unchained Melody...the best wedding slow dance song! Also, the only hit song from the Broadway show I believe was titled "Aspects of Love."
