This is really good.  This is disruptive technology at it's best.  I wonder how long it will be before we have people referring to on campus education the same way the lovingly refer to their local <insert store type here> when urging you not to shop online.

Hacker: Don't tell me about the press. I know exactly who reads the papers:

  • The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country;
  • The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country;
  • The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country;
  • The Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country;
  • The Financial Times is read by people who own the country;
  • The Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country;
  • And The Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is.

Sir Humphrey: Oh and Prime Minister, what about the people who read The Sun?

Bernard: Sun readers don't care who runs the country, as long as she's got big tits.

I love the show!

Rob Long: "It's so weird that I don't hate you." · 45 minutes ago

That begs the question which is crazier: that you weren't hated, or that the lack of hatred was considered weird? · 31 minutes ago

I got this all the time or variations of it is college.  "You are my first Republican friend."  "For a conservative you are really normal." "I can't believe I have a friend that voted for Bush"  It makes me laugh all the time.

Fake John Galt:
...we were visited in ancient times by aliens that left life on the planet.

Um, how did the alien life get started?

Other aliens, duh.

Reminds me of the story of an anthropologist talking to someone who believed that the world sits on the back of a turtle.  He asked the man what the turtle stood on.  The reply was, another turtle.  And what does that turtle stand on?   The reply: It's turtles all the way down

FJG's liberal friend placed his theory of creation on the back of an alien and it's aliens all the way down. · 12 minutes ago

Oh come on everyone know that the earth in on the back of four elephants and those four elephants are standing on the back of a turtle!

I think my first real jaw dropper was first quarter freshman year when I was having a conversation in a history class about POW camps.  I said during the Second World War the Germans and Japanese treated their POWs much worse than the Americans and that we didn't torture our POWs while the Japanese and Germans did almost routinely.  I can still see the liberal girl I was talking to bristle, it was the first time I had heard the term "ethnocentrism".  I was shocked.  I tried to tell her about beatings, beheading, the Bhutan Death March, cannibalism, and the list goes on........ but that was just "jingoism".

Pseudodionysius: Comedy Central is for clowns and he's the leader of the clown car parade.

Next. · 8 minutes ago

It's called ComedyCentral. It is not a news network. If you think that Jon Stewart is a clown, then he is doing his job. · 13 minutes ago

The problem is it is news show.  Stewart is being highly disingenuous when he says it is just a comedy shtick.  He is a primary news source for a large portion of my generation and he know it.

Troy Senik, Ed.:

UPDATE: Here's the audacious statement released by Planned Parenthood in the aftermath of the verdict:

The jury has punished Kermit Gosnell for his appalling crimes. This verdict will ensure that no woman is victimized by Kermit Gosnell ever again.

This case has made clear that we must have and enforce laws that protect access to safe and legal abortion, and we must reject misguided laws that would limit women's options and force them to seek treatment from criminals like Kermit Gosnell.

I wonder how their acquittal statement reads.  Thankfully we shall never know.

Hey thanks never heard of Atkinson but I just spent my Audible credit on the first in the series.

Oooh the other one I forgot and I am not sure it qualifies as novelty song is Ain't Got  No Home by Clarence Frogman Henry.

1967mustangman

I've always partial to The Unicorn by the Irish Rovers.  A more recent novelty song I love is  I Was Just Flipped Off By A Silver-Haired Old Lady With a Honk if You Love Jesus Sticker on the Bumper of Her Car by Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park.

So who is Susan Sarandon character here? Or does she play herself in real life given her politics.... · 10 hours ago

Judy Clarke ran as fast as she could to Boston to see if she could spare the "beautiful boy" the needle.

That is interesting to juxtapose against the Freakanomics podcast that talks about Hall of Fame inductees, Oscar winners, and Nobel Laureates outliving their peers.  Maybe the moral of the story is if you are going to be famous you need to be really famous!  Hey it worked for Stan Musial.

Das,

This may be implied but the best part of watching a Dodgers game is of course Vin Scully. I will confess that I spend an inordinate amount of money on MLB.TV premium solely to listen to Vin Scully (and I am not even a Dodgers fan).  When Vin retires or goes to the great broadcast booth in the sky I am going to go back to the radio only version!

I just turned 30 on Saturday (yes I know see my post about sharing Hitler's birthday).  I have had facial hair for the last 12 years.......I am at the point where most of the people I am routine contact with (aside from my family) have never seen me without a beard.

For my wedding, because my lovely bride made a special request, I trimmed down to a goatee.  It is different, but it is still quite cool.  I like the beard, but I fully agree with the sentiment about just not wanting to shave.  How does it go? Oh yes Beards Turn Laziness Into Awesomeness!!

Casey: Isn't it a shame that Hitler's birthday overshadows that of Betty Lou Gerson? Hardly seems fair. · 33 minutes ago

Don't forget Don Mattingly and Carmen Electra!
