Before the Beatles nobody sounded like the Beatles. Since the Beatles everybody sounds like the Beatles.

The Beatles had some good songs, lots of bad ones, and made stuff famous. Kind of like World of Warcraft didn't exactly do anything new-- it "just" got all the good stuff others had done, put it in one place, and did it well.
I've heard it said that creativity is taking two existing ideas and bringing them together to form a new idea.
The Beatles brought together several existing musical styles and formed a new sound. That sound has been the sound in popular music ever since.
