Foxman: There is a case for allowing a person in very bad condition to die a natural death, but why would you call 911? · 7 hours ago

Perhaps hoping that EMTs could do the job that the home's employees [by contract] could not do?

Maureen Rice
Adam Koslin: It seems that the press, like the rest of the electorate, is tired of the non-stop politicking that the interminable election brought.  I really do wish that the President had been asked to take a stand on the renewed violence in Gaza and southern Israel, but I suppose a brief honeymoon period was inevitable.  Bad timing.  Bad timing.  · 15 hours ago

What have the past four years been, if not an extended honeymoon?  With the additional pleasure of mutually trashing the exes.  The woman  sitting next to Ed Henry was gushing like a schoolgirl hoping the team captain will choose her as prom queen.  Disgusting.

~Paules: Barack Obama doesn't understand that the press won't always be in his corner.  Now that they've spent so much effort to ensure his second term,  the press will be free to turn on him.  It doesn't seem to make logical sense, but the press corp is full of sharks.  And what attracts sharks?  Blood in the water.  The Benghazi scandal will become a national trauma before Obama's second term is over.         · 1 hour ago

This administration has shown itself to be immune to shame or criticism. We'll see a series of "Benghazis", and be lied to about them, too.  After all if, as the President said, the US could withstand another 9/11 (presumably on home ground), he doesn't see any problem with using such crises to ratchet up the State, or ignoring them when it suits political purposes.  What are 4 dead Americans, and their distraught families, to him?  They don't much interest the MSM.

Every LDS I have met seems decent, hard-working, and takes their faith seriously.  They strive for self-reliance.  That said, they invite those outside their faith to learn how to care for themselves.

I wish I were shocked that after Hail and Hosannas about the 1st Black President, I don't hear about how historic the first LDS President would be ,unlike the noise about the 1st RC President.  After all, wasn't the territory of the Saints at war with the USA only 150 years ago?

"No, no, I said 'Listen to Steyn', not 'Lift a stein'".

Brian McMenomy: Charles Krauthammer had the same take, that if you simply listened to the debate, you might have thought Biden won, but if you watched, he clearly lost.

Jason Chaffetz might have had the best line concerning the Veep's behavior: "If my 11-year old had behaved like that at the dinner table, I would be..(motioning with finger to come over to him)..let's have a little conversation...".  If the standing Vice President is being compared unfavorably to an 11-year old, he had a bad night. · 5 hours ago

Sabrdance: I'm unwilling to leave.  The United States is the last best hope for democracy and liberty in the world.  Europe won't defend freedom of religion or speach, and their politicians prefer not to be questioned by the people.  Even England heavily curtails the ancient rights of Englishmen on both counts.  Forget healthcare, the right to organize and assemble to live as we want without the leave of the government is most important to me.  And as long as we have that and the rule of law we can fix the rest.

And frankly, if the US is going to become a suppressive banana republic, I'd be insulted not to be hanged by it. · Sep 14 at 10:34pm

Is that too long for a bumper-sticker?  "If the USA is to become a suppressive banana republic, I'd be insulted not to be hanged by it?"

el75: I am one of those annoying foodies who travels to Seattle frequently for their totally underrated food and drink options.  I wholeheartedly recommend the following restaurants:

Le Pichet (lepichetseattle.com/home/)

Pike Street Fish Fry (www.pikestreetfishfry.net/)

Lecosho (http://lecosho.com/)

Also, there are great lunch options at Salumi, Dick's Drive In, and for a great bar with nice snacks and a great happy hour, The Virginia Inn.

Also, the Experience Music Project is pricey, but if you are a music lover, it's worth it. · 40 minutes ago

How about "Ride the Duck"?

Maureen Rice

Susan in Seattle: With limited time, the Market and ferry ride suggestions are good.  The Seattle Public Library and the chapel of St. Ignatius at Seattle University are interesting if modern architecture is your thing.  An Argosy boat trip from Elliott Bay would take you along the waterfront , through the locks, and into Lake Union and Lake Washington.

I second Foxfier and KP: it'd be great to meet for a cup of coffee and anything outdoors is a must as the rain and clouds are due to close in soon. · Sep 14 at 7:07am

When visitors (with little time) ask what to do--- I say, Pike Place Market and the waterfront.  They're not only tourist magnets, but the heart of Seattle.  Go to the flower market.  People watch. Breath in that fresh salt air and enjoy sunshine (while it lasts!).  Go to the Pink Door for a nightcap.  Or Kell's for Irish ambiance.

I second the Museum of Flight, if you have young'uns, especially.  And  Seattle is esp. beautiful when seen from the water, so take an Argosy cruise.  The light here (when the sun cooperates!) is lively with color.

Pony Convertible: I heard a story that when he was on jury duty, he was asked what is profession was.  He stated, "Retired Government Employee".  That says alot.   I respect that he didn't exploit his fame.  However, I wish he would have shared more memories with the world.   Like the memories of our WWII vets, they are priceless and gone forever when the pass. · 9 hours ago

Is it absolutely certain that he wrote no memoir?  He was very conscious of history, and the part he played in it:  might he have felt he owed it to the thousands who made that flight  possible to tell the story?  He was an engineer and a teacher: who better to understand the power of witness upon the next generation?

Last year I bought a 2000 F150 5.4L V8 4WD Lariat for pulling horse and recreational trailers, intending it to be a weekend drive.  My daily ride was a dead-reliable 1991 Honda Accord which, after I had bought the truck, ceased to be reliable except in how much it took to fix.  I sold it to a friend with the knowledge and time to tinker.    Thankfully, my commute is short (20 miles a day, total).  However, as the F150 gets 16mpg locally (but 23mpg highway!) I plan grocery runs, library stops,  and minor errands wisely.

It's taken time to get used to the handling differences between the two.  Had no idea that a truck can't turn as sharply as a small sedan, or that it was even possible to break a tie-rod when reversing in 4wd---who knew!  But I enjoy driving it.

Blake Neff: to preserve civilian life even as he was methodically burning Georgia to the ground. · Jul 28 at 8:19pm

Sherman was dealing with an opponent who, however valiant, was schooled in the 'Western way of war':  to carry on the fight until the cost is too high to bear.  After  the capital Tokyo was fire-bombed and flattened, few Allied commanders could have imagined that the Japanese would not surrender.  I can only imagine that it would be like pounding mercilessly an opponent in the ring, who yet would bring his  family, his culture, his emperor, his gods, into the fight rather than yield.

Re: Rush Wins

Mel Foil: CJRun,

My two favorites are Rush and Hugh Hewitt. If Dennis Prager wasn't on at the same time as Rush, I'd listen to him more too. When Rush has a guest host, I listen to Prager. · Aug 3 at 4:32pm

Ditto:  unless the guest host is the incomparable Mark Steyn!

The nearest Chick-fil-A to the Seattle area is 369-odd miles away, at Boise State University.  I checked...

Math problem:  At $3.65/gal, driving a F-150 that gets 16mph/highway, how much would a giant order of waffle fries cost?  Add in sandwiches for extra credit.
