Reagan's attitude toward marriage seems to be shared by both candidates for president this year, one thing we can be grateful for.

Richard Young

Troy, I for one appreciate your reassessment of Mitt Romney.  There is something unseemly about a person tooting their own horn regarding acts of personal charity so I hope we don't see Romney changing in that regard.  However, having friends and acquaintances praise you is altogether appropriate and also more effective.

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.: It's far worse than you imagined. Wait until you read about these horrible things young Romney did. · 1 hour ago

You knew the left was reaching with that WaPo story.  They won't be able to maintain the narrative because Romney is basically very nice guy.

Albert Arthur: You forgot a paragraph:

Spoken to later in her life at a random bar, Romney's mother said, "I never got over that experience. I will remember it until the day I die." Mitt Romney's mother is, according to her family, who could be lying, now deceased. Why a supposed Mormon, with their weird beliefs about alcohol, was in a bar is unclear.· 2 hours ago

Good addition.

Muckraker is a label I would be happy to be worthy of.  Certainly better than some others I've received.

Richard Young

I guess she's never heard of Guantánamo Bay.

I'm sure these have been mentioned, but a couple of my favorites are :Once upon a time in the west (if only for the music) and The Professionals (with Lee Marvin and Burt Lancaster).  Another couple of favorites are The Bravodos (with Gregory Peck) and Chato's Land (even a man can admire Charles Bronson's chiseled physique).

Thank Heaven my mother didn't get free contraceptives!

Very effective.  I hope Romney reads your suggestion.

EThompson: My response to this speech: Why is this a revelation?

I continue to be flummoxed by the reluctance of certain sectors of the GOP to trumpet Romney's personal net worth, the success of companies he both advised and helped to build/restructure, and the impeccable quality of his family life.

Richard, do you think the GOP faces a class resentment issue among certain factors of the party? · 1 minute ago

I think there are Republicans that worry about the left succeeding in pushing class resentment.  There are probably those who have a hard time repressing that instinct themselves.  I can't remember who but someone was quoted as saying "nothing is so difficult as to celebrate the success of a friend."  People are naturally envious and have to fight the impulse.  It's always seemed to me that Romney is judged by a different standard than his opponents.  I thought maybe I was simply not being objective about it but Jennifer Rubin expresses the same thought often.  Sad to say but I think that since Romney doesn't have any obvious vices there is a tendency to seek out and exaggerate whatever flaws he does exhibit.

Thanks for the link.  It's even more impressive hearing him deliver the speech than reading it because, perhaps for the first time, he does it with conviction and polish and without the frenzy that sometimes diminishes the impact of what he is trying to say.

Seems a few important questions were left out of this interview: 1) you trumpet how well you are doing being outspent so greatly, isn't financial support simply another form of voting and another measure of one's popularity? 2) you state that Romney is not conservative and has no conviction yet you endorsed him strongly in 2008 as having both, long after the details of Romneycare were known.  If he has moved anywhere since it has been to the right.  How do you square your 2008 acclaim with your 2012 scorn?

Richard Young

Paul, I've often had the same puzzling reflection.  For some reason I find myself rooting for him every time he plays despite his moral failings.  It's not just his marital infidelities that bug me but his swearing on the course, all the while knowing the camera must be catching it and his lack of camaraderie with his fellow player.  Perhaps the last is because of focusing but I suspect he's simply trying to intimidate his opponent.  Not unusual in sports but a bit unseemly in golf.  Despite all that I rarely watch golf unless he's in contention.  I guess I just want to see him do the impossible shot and break the unbreakable records.

Richard Young

I've been surprised Romney hadn't put this out earlier.  He should run it often.  It surely can't be called negative campaigning.  It makes Santorum's over the top remarks about Romney during this campaign look rather convenient.

This is a shocker and a great loss for conservatives.  Breitbart was absolutely fearless in staring into the jaws of the lion.  Deep sympathy for his family.

Illiniguy: Because his parents were still American citizens when they were living in Mexico. · 3 hours ago

So is that the rule, if your parents are citizens it doesn't matter where you are physically born?  I know you are still a citizen but does that satisfy the requirement the constitution sets out for running for president?
