Not to belabor the obvious, but the original Brideshead Revisited is still streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime. If you're going to watch TV, you may as well watch the best.
Basil Fawlty: Just about any scene from Top Secret! "Your Ripple Blanc, sir."
Sounds like something your namesake would have said. · 11 hours ago
True. But the young Val Kilmer never visited Fawlty Towers to absently sniff the twist-off cap proffered by the waiter before the Ripple Blanc was poured and dissolved the wine glass.
The porch sequence from It's a Gift, where W.C.Fields has his attempts to get some sleep repeatedly foiled, most notably by an insurance salesman seeking Carl LaFong (capital L, small a . . .). And the scene where his store is destroyed by the deaf and blind Mr. Muckle while an extremely impatient customer waits for his ten pounds of cumquats.
Mollie Hemingway, Ed.: This has almost nothing to do with the post but I just wanted to mention that the German name for Ascension Day is wonderful. Himmelfahrt. Heh.
Basil Fawlty: Mark Steyn demands his share of the opprobrium.

I believe Mr. Steyn claims to have been on the bandwagon before Mr. Ferguson jumped on and off again. I'm also unsure that it's stupid or dumb to speculate about the effects sexual orientation may have on an individual's work or ideology. · 4 minutes ago
I'm confused. We roll our eyes and scoff when the left plays this card for their own purposes yet it's OK when Ferguson does it? Again, the public fainting couch over this is laughable but, really, his point, taken solely on its merits, was ill-informed to say the least. · 0 minutes ago
Which card is that? That race, gender, sexual orientation, etc., may have an influence on an individual's work or ideology? As I recall, it was the left that reacted to Larry Summers's views on women in much the same way that people are now reacting to Ferguson's views.
It is dreary to see someone who's writing I so admire (Ferguson) make such a stupid comment, and doubly dreary to see someone else who's writing I also admire (Steyn) try to jump on the bandwagon.
At least Prof. Ferguson was able to provide a meaningful and substantive apology that demonstrated his recognition that his off the cuff remark was dumb. Mark Steyn, call you office. · 23 minutes ago

For the ghoulish, there's always The Hearse Song (the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out . . .) It may qualify as the best and the most annoying. Listener discretion is advised.
Re: IRS Planted Question
Helping with the setup. It's what a Roady does.
