I havent been this excited for the final in a long time. First, I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI, so I have no love for OSU. Secondly, I picked KU in to win it all in my office bracket, not in my Ricochet bracket unfotunately, and may win one of these pools for the first time.
All of that is true. My question where is the real alternative to Romney? It is certainly not Rick Santorum. We have 9+ percent unemployment and he wants to lecture us on the dangers of porn. I dont see that playing too well in the general.
Is Romney the perfect conservative candidate? Of course not. Is he the best candidate running? Absolutely.
Romney has some significant flaws, but they pale in comparison to those of the other candidates. He is also the only candidate left with significant executive leadership experience.
Santorum is without a doubt solid on social issues, but seems to be clueless when it comes to the economy. He is a "compassionate" conservative in the GWB mold. His preferential treatment for manufacturers is no different than Obama's "green" energy scheme.
Gingrich is undisciplined and completely lacking in tact. He is as likely to embrace massive government programs (cap and trade, federal job training, etc.) as any liberal. He is a little too impressed with his own brilliance.
Ron Paul is on the right track when it comes to economics, but his foreign policy is dangerously naive.
Identity politics is such a huge part of the left's ideology. The message is that your identity, whether it be your race, your gender, or your sexual orientation, defines who you are as a person. The left spreads the message that being a "good" or "real" member of the group requires that you adhere to leftist politics. If you don't agree with them you are stripped of your identity
I agree that a strong conservative could win the White House, but only if they can effectively communicate their ideals. That ability to communicate is what set Reagan apart. Right now I don't see that person amongst our candidates.
I too really want to like Perry. Unfortunately it seems to me that he has all of the right conservative instincts, but is unable to defend them with facts. I first noticed this during the first debate when couldn't name a single scientist who questioned AGW.
The Other Diane: I actually donated to this guy's campaign after learning about him on Ricochet. Never again, but I guess he doesn't really care about losing small donors when he has his big contributors to count on. So disappointing. Thought he was one of the good guys. · Sep 16 at 3:58pm
Seeing as Boeing is his 15th largest donor, he might be losing some big contributor support as well
Re: UK/KU -- I'm OK, RU?
The pot is only $50, but the bragging rights are priceless
