As a long time employee of UCSF, I had an opportunity in the late 1990's to sample cuisine based on Dr. Ornish's recipes delivered to our office by his minions. What I said about that experience then is just as true today - there are much worse things in life than dying...
As a proud (and not going anywhere) native of CA, I pray that the rest of the country can learn something from the insanity displayed by our politicians...for myself, I can only say I have total admiration (and a much greater understanding) of those brave Soldiers/Marines who throughout history have found it necessary to call in artillery/airstrikes on their own positions...
55 here. Have lived in Nor Cal (San Mateo county) and worked in health care finance at an academic medical center in SF the last 30 years, but spent my formative years in the Inland Empire and a very small town on the Central Coast, so most of my points were scored early in life. I guarantee you I am the only director level person at my employer (and possibly all of SF) who has the slightest idea what lower/mid level staff are thinking, mostly because I talk with them on smoke breaks. Cut their session length and budget by two-thirds, and impose a 100% tax on any post-term lobbying income and I may be convinced. But on second thought, no, as the only thing more disastrous than throwing taxpayer money at our problems would be granting more people the opportunity to do so...
