Low-information voter :-)

Not only did I make guacamole and fajitas (more Tex-Mex than Mexican) for Cinco de Quatro (as our illustrious President calls it), but I typically make margaritas.  This year, however, I made a mint julep since it was Kentucky Derby day (and because I had bourbon and fresh mint at the house).  Apparently, I not only offended Mexican culture, but also offended the culture of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Where do I report for my reeducation?

Unsurprisingly, most people didn't know the dominant gas in the atmosphere. I'd bet the propaganda masters who squawk about CO2 emissions are the responsible parties.

Lileks would be at the top of my list as I've been waking up to the Bleat for my entire post-college life.

Mark Steyn and Jonah Goldberg would be my designated NR representatives.

I'd add Greg Gutfeld, TV's Andy Levy, and Bill Schultz (Red Eye is the only TV 'news' that I watch).

For the professorial delegates, I'd like Glenn Reynolds, Ann Althouse and Victor Davis Hanson.

Gavin McInnis, Nick Gillespie, and Matt Welch would represent the libertarians.

I'd plan to grill out in the backyard, make my mom's tomato bread salad, and copious amounts of Colorado craft beer, wine, and mead.  Whiskey and cigars after dinner are optional.

Any and all Ricochetti are invited, of course!

Well, my adopted hometown Rockies may have lost the day today, but I look forward to tomorrow's opener for my Cleveland Indians as they clobber the Jays.

I think we know Nurse Colleen's last name: Rached.

raycon and lindacon: Colorado has been drifting downhill for the last 15 years.  The state GOP is a hopeless mess.  You'd think the national party was running Colorado.  We have become the farm team for lefty Dem's headed to Obama's stable.

I think the Colorado GOP is heading in the right direction.   They ended 2012 out of debt and were able to support local candidates.  They are at least starting (per a press release yesterday) a field program focused on voter registration, coalition building, minority outreach, and other grassroots initiatives.

Also, the legalization of marijuana has some Dems believing in the 10th Amendment for the first time.  The imminent passage of civil unions will remove a wedge issue from the state's politics.

The downside is that the Dems hate businesses except for their pet ones to whom they give grants. My new Dem representative said that a fiscal impact statement for proposed legislation's impacts on businesses would be "one more piece of non-analyzed information".

We also may get forced unionization of firefighters as well as other expansions of government.  At least we get to vote before our taxes go up here.

The sooner this statist clown is out of office, the better.   I truly do not understand why New Yorkers put up with his nannying schtick.

Thank you, James! Your Christmas Eve Diners have been a tradition for me for many years. Merry Christmas and thanks again.

1. Get rid of DH rule in AL.

2. Stop having so many off days during the playoffs. 1 extra day per series and one between LDS/LCS/WS each are plenty. Players play nearly daily during the regular season, why not the post-season?

3. Expand the use of the humidor beyond the Rockies to all minor league and major league cities so that everyone plays with a standardized ball.

4. Add a firm salary cap ala the NFL to ensure competitiveness amongst all the MLB teams.

5. Return as much as possible to the 'balanced' schedule of the 80's and early 90's. While the expansion of divisional play is nice, it would be better to have all teams in each league playing each other a roughly equal amount of times.

I started reading about the project on NRO and visited right away with Podcast #1 (I am a podcast junkie).  I'd been familiar with Peter's Uncommon Knowledge podcasts, but I enjoyed his more informal style on Ricochet with Rob Long more.

I continued as a leech and listening to the podcasts  and found they continued to be enjoyable, especially with the addition of Lileks, whose Bleat I'd been reading for a decade by that point (as well as listening to his Diner podcasts).

Once Ricochet began offering premium podcasts, I put my skin in the game so I wouldn't miss them, and have enjoyed listening and reading ever since.

Re: Who Won?

Well, if you listen to my wife, Biden lost and Martha was in bad form attacking Ryan. And, she normally hates politics.

I think Ryan didn't lose and didn't decisively win either. He let Joe be Joe and closed very strongly.

Mr. Romney may need to reread McCullough's book.  My recollection is that Adams did not assist with the Constitution as he was in France at the time.  Adams did come back to help flesh out some Constitutional roles such as serving as the first Vice President, signing what should have been an unconstitutional law (Alien and Sedition Act), and being the first sitting President to be denied reelection and stepping down peacefully.

Don't get me wrong: I like John Adams and McCullough's biography. I just wish that Mr. Romney had chosen one of our less statist Presidents.

It could have been worse.  He could have chosen Teddy Roosevelt!

Civil Sense

I like Marco Rubio. That said, he's only been in the Senate less than two years.  Yes, he had 8 years in the Florida House as well, but that's not much time in office with no executive experience. We've seen how well an unqualified candidate has done as President these last 3+ years.

Strategically, I think it would hurt Romney to nominate someone who will be portrayed as inexperienced due to length of service by the dominant liberal establishment mass media.  Of course, the argument that length of service means that one is knowledgeable is disproved by Joe Biden; however, Romney needs no distractions and focus laser-like on the economy, pure and simple.

Mel Foil: Once there's absolutely no stigma to being gay--that's not so hard to imagine--nothing would prevent an accountant from telling his client, "you and your longtime roommate need to be married. You'll qualify for this, and this, and that, as a couple...save a lot of money." "But we're not gay." "I didn't say you had to be gay. I said you should get 'married'." · 1 hour ago

Well, when that happens, it certainly will be the first time in the history of the Earth that a marriage occurred for convenience or financial considerations.  A solution to this complaint could be simplifying our tax code to remove special 'qualifications'.

As for the premise for the post, if you want the state to recognize your union, get a civil union.  If you want to get married, go to church.

Civil Sense

Also, Mr. Boaz's opinions prove that, contrary to popular opinion, Libertarians split their votes nearly equally between the Democrats and Republicans.  Therefore, their candidates do not hurt the Republicans nearly as badly as the Green Party can be to the Democrats
