Bio

I am a conservative, sometimes libertarian minded father of three daughters, believing in "First Principals" and equality of opportunity - not equality of outcomes.  I was raised Catholic (through early teens) and found my way back to the Roman Catholic Church 2 years ago.  My wife and I are raising our children in faith, while trying to make a contribution to our community in the Tidewater of Virginia.

We camp for vacations with a small towable camper, we spend evenings and weekends gardening, canning, at the soccer fields, TBall fields, softball fields, and basketball gyms.

I know we often discuss the motivations of people  when it comes to reproduction; but is it all mental?  Is there a physiological reason why there are so many childless couples exist in the west?  When they do choose to have kids, they have some funny ideas on how to go about doing it.

This is almost a thread of its own.

Hmm... I will have to think on it a bit more.  Thanks, Drew.

No less a disease to be treated as an illness.

Head start is a failure. Public schools in many locales are complete failures. This is more about conditioning young minds to accept statism from a very early age. Once the program has been active for a few decades, the agenda education begins. Remembering songs to Mao, Stalin, and PolPot. Waiting for our Great Leap Forward.

I suppose I am a coward. I cannot find a way to explain to my 8 yr old daughter why I am going to D. C. tomorrow. I told her it was a demonstration about respecting the important gift of human life in all stages. Eric, can you enlighten me with how Garrett Kell went about explaining abortion to a 4 yr old? (or one of the other posters who mentioned explaining abortion to a child younger than 12 or 13)I cannot imagine a 4 yr old being mentally equipped to handle such --- but quite often I am reminded as to how completely clueless I am.

The president had mostly Caucasian campaign staffers in high level/paid positions.  Now he is showing a majority male, mostly middle age, and mostly white cabinet -- but the jesters are gay Cuban engineer poets.  The Obama view of EEOC/diversity is chock full of irony.

tabula rasa: Let's see:

I'm  old (he needs that demographic), nearly bald, a cancer-survivor (very early stage, but under Obamacare I'm at much higher risk), and a Mormon (think of the symbolism).

And, while I have never actually written any verse, I can recite several poems that begin "there once was a girl from . . . ."

I should be a leading poetry candidate for his third inaugural.

I boycott Planned Abortion Services (Parenthood) and any people, organizations, and companies that support their slaughter of the innocent. Now, wouldn't it be nice if our govt wouldn't provide nearly half of their operating budget using borrowed money, then tax me (and you) to service this debt?I also boycott much of what comes from Hollywood billed as entertainment. Again, we don't have much choice about supporting the product when our govt subsidizes their "art".

Thank you for writing about this.  What a beautiful story.

I am slack jawed at this incredible waste of of time that brilliant and devotedly faithful people have put into such an empty discussion about three words uttered by the Holy Father in a homily I include myself as it took some dedicated focus and considerable time to read through some 250 comments, (although I cannot claim to be terribly brilliant nor devotedly faithful -- I am trying though). I found myself angry at times, I found myself lost at times, and I found myself sad at times. I thank Mama Toad & KC for the clarity and reality check.

Tim H.: I really dislike the permanent campaign. · 27 minutes ago

I agree with you Tim,  and years ago both parties campaigned hard and the folks went back to work / back to their lives after the election, while the elected went about the business of the nation.  I believe that most Conservatives / Republicans and Independents would still prefer this.

Unfortunately Progressives/Socialists LOVE IT. They live for it, it is their defining purpose, it is their life.  Even worse Socialist Progressives own the Democrat party.

We will lose unless we take the battle to them.  The RNC needs to be aggressively organizing.  The Democrats will call it "divisive" but it will not stop their 24x7x365 organizing machine (MSM Facebook, Twitter, Email, MSM...)

Perpetual campaigning is here until the Socialists and Liberal Fascists are no longer a factor in American politics.

Mr. Yousefzadeh -- How does electing folks like Castle, Lugar, and Snowe help to differentiate the party?  All three are great "compromisers", none carry the party ideals outside of primary season (if then).  If the candidates are indifferent from the opposition party, and seemingly committed to the largess of the state, why should we bother with them?  The Democrat party has been very successful in ejecting the moderates among them -- why not us?

Pejman Yousefzadeh: Well, I see that we are going to lose more Senate seats. Should be fun.

Mr. Yousefzadeh -- What good are the Lugars other than to slow the incoming tide of "transformation"?  Lugar has been in the Senate for 36 years and became more about Dick Lugar than his district,  HE DIDN'T EVEN OWN A HOME IN INDIANA??

You suggest that we would be better off sending appeasers to the ring than lose a few battles?  I think the problem is that we are sending too many moderates into the fray, and our Mourdock's are speaking too gently as to not upset the top of the ticket.

We lose because we let the other side call us woman haters and we don't respond with baby killer signs, we lose because the other side defines us racists, and we don't respond by calling SNAP / Welfare the modern day plantation.  We lose because we try to "soften" the hard truths with gentle prose.

Most importantly -- We lose because we are funding our opposition via taxation distributed as Federal/State grants, and salaries (union dues) (i.e: Planned Parenthood, EPA, USDOL, DOEd, DOE, AFGE, SEIU,  AFSCME).

@Grendel -I don't know the answer to your question.  A while ago P Robinson asked us to post about how we see the campaign and it's effects in our own "backyard".   I thought the suggested video viewing by our parish pastor was pretty relevant.

As I wrote in the initial post,  I hope churches everywhere are reminding people of faith about these issues and are not cowering to the IRS " no politicking from the pulpit"  threats.  Catholic Democrats are infiltrators and bullies.

"Meanwhile, a group calling itself Catholic Democrats faxed a letter to Catholic pastors and parish administrators throughout Virginia this week urging them “to keep their parishes safe from partisan politicking.”

Curious ..will this NR Digital Edition work on my iPad?  or it web based?

I carry my hammerless 5rd SW Airweight 38+P .  Jacket pocket,  jeans pocket, or in the waistband.  Not huge power, but it punches a lethal hole, and is a good defender.  When traveling with our hybrid tent camper I tote along the Glock 22 (40SW).  I really like this gun, but as mentioned by others, the larger gun is often not a realistic CC weapon for a variety of reasons.
