Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hospitalized with Infection

2020 continues to keep things interesting.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been taken to the hospital and treated for a possible infection, according to a court spokeswoman.

“Justice Ginsburg was admitted to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland early this morning for treatment of a possible infection,” spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg said Tuesday. “She was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. last night after experiencing fever and chills. She underwent an endoscopic procedure at Johns Hopkins this afternoon to clean out a bile duct stent that was placed last August. The Justice is resting comfortably and will stay in the hospital for a few days to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment.”

Ginsburg is 87 and has a long history of health issues. She is a four-time cancer survivor, had a nonsurgical gallbladder treatment in May, and missed oral arguments in January 2019 due to lung surgery.

Ironically, if RBG were to step off of the Court and ACB were confirmed, this could give less reason to vote for Trump, as there won’t be any obvious vacancies.

Someone posted about how the worst is yet to come in 2020. It’s here. In the midst of all this insanity, throw in a SCOTUS nomination. Unbelievable. Where is SMOD when we need it?

I hope Ms Ginsburg’s health returns quickly and that she is safe and comfortable. I also wish she would retire. At least the sh*tstorm we would get would be familiar.

It may be uncharitable, but I predict that if RBG were to leave the Supreme Court soon (for whatever reason) that Progressive would riot in the streets of DC and the city would be under martial law for months.

And Mitch would ram the new nomination through.

The biggest question is if Trump would want to hit for the fences by nominating ACB who will lose the votes of Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, or if he would pick a “safer” nominee.

Boy do you misunderstand the electorate. Do you realize the gratitude the ones who care about SCOTUS would feel if that happened?  It would ride Trump to a landslide win.

Praying for her health and safety. The country doesn’t need this fight at the moment. We’ve got enough going on right now.

Is Barrett likely to be nominated?  It would be fantastic, but the liberal press will go after her relentlessly with venom.  She’s solid as a rock, modest, and incredibly smart.  Can’t have Supreme Court folks like that can we?

They would go to new lengths to destroy her and her family. It’s not something I’d put my family through, but maybe she’s made of sterner stuff.

    Gary,

Trump doesn’t triangulate like all the never Trumpers. That’s why I like him. ACB it is.

They’ll go after Cocaine Mitch. A SCOTUS nomination coming up during an election year? Expect to hear the name Merrick Garland at least twice a second.

I can’t imagine anyone wanting to go through the horrors of the scrutiny public officials are forced to endure in Washington D.C. It’s not enough for every single private detail of your entire life to come out, but then the national press repeats the rumors and lies perpetrated by those who oppose the nomination. It’s almost impossible to refute something that isn’t true once the story is planted. Years ago we had a foreign exchange student living with us during the Thomas hearings. As part of her education we faithfully watched the senate hearings, but I was extremely embarrassed for her to hear the unproved allegations made by Anita Hill. High stakes politics brings out the snarling animals licking their lips as they lap up the blood of their opponents.

The fight is here, whether we want it/need it or not. You’re more generous than me, I don’t wish her well at all. Hopefully this barnacle-like collection of geriatrics in government get the hint and will leave at a reasonable age. If that takes her being replaced by an Amy Coney Barret – so much the better.

I don’t worship at the alter of “Youth!” or “Public Servants” that should be taking their last years with loved ones, hobbies and their religion.

I wish RBG well. She has been incredibly gracious towards Kavanaugh which was classy and kind of her in the wake of the scorched earth campaign he endured during his confirmation.

However, she seems incredibly frail physically and even if she is extremely sharp mentally, when are we going to confront the question of whether lifetime appointments for justices are still appropriate? People live far longer now than they ever have and that point needs to be addressed. I wonder whether shorter terms would help alleviate some of the animosity around the appointment process, not to mention the self-imposed stress that justices like RBG place on themselves to stay on because of political considerations. Had Clinton been elected, RBG would have retired 3 years ago.

Gary has been living on hope since 2016. I wonder why the never-Trumpers do not consider the alternative: Would the Biden-Pelosi-Schumer crowd be an improvement? Over anything?

I just read KDW’s rant on Trump on NRO this morning. Unhinged.

Policy-wise Biden would be a strong step down.  But the benefit would be the political end of Trump and Trumpism.  See Kevin Williamson’s piece today at the National Review.  https://www.nationalreview.com/the-tuesday/price-trump-presidency-government-political-system-civic-culture-degraded/

Funny, I found Kevin Williamson to be right on point.  I suggest that you read it and decide for yourself.  https://www.nationalreview.com/the-tuesday/price-trump-presidency-government-political-system-civic-culture-degraded/

I don’t want the oul bird to drop off the twig either, just to retire. Unless Biden wins in November, in that case  I hope she’ll live forever.
