Rocket Surgeon

just signed up here, my father Rocket Surgeon highly recommended the commentary on this site and encouraged me to sign up. Last December, a few days before his 90th birthday, he passed away peacefully on his bed. There was a surprise party planned for him, but he managed to pull off the final surprise. He was greatly loved by family and friends and will be missed.

Condolences on your loss. I also lost my father last year. (As did James Lileks and a few others here.) Ninety is a good run. Seemed like Rocket Surgeon hadn’t been away for that long, but I see here his last comment was about a year ago.

    Welcome.

Welcome DW, I appreciate that Arahant linked your Dad’s comments. They provide a legacy of him, and like the poet’s quote, allow him to continue to shine among the stars.

Hi DW – I too am sorry for your loss, but wanted to welcome you. I’ve been a member since 2014 or thereabouts. Interesting people and topics, and a decent code of conduct. You can criticize any topic, but not another member in a disrespectful way, or you’ll get the lightning bolt. No foul language – so you might say we are the anti-CHOP of the Internet!

thank you all so much for your kind messages and also the mental stimulation shared, a few years back he said his brain was shrinking and he was thinking about donating it to science. I held my tongue instead of saying I hope they had a good microscope.  When he met my mother, he squirted her with disappearing ink. his sense of humor may have waned more recently, but I am blessed to have such an intelligent and upright role model.

@jameslileks also likes making “introduction” posts the Member Post Of The Week, and I’ll point out that this one also has about triple the number of Likes so far, as BOTH of Gary’s Posts Of The Week COMBINED.

What everyone else said, doubled.  You Dad would often like and comment on my posts, so Welcome, and thanks for carrying on the tradition.  I think you will like it here, and find that our members make a great second family.
