Quote of the Day, March 21: A Sign of the Times…Job Posting
The Department of Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in queer migrations. Research may focus on trans/queer geographies, racialization, decoloniality, and flows of people, ideas, and objects across borders. Of special interest to us are innovative methodological approaches to gender and sexual citizenship, discourses of belonging, and human rights in the context of state and social violence against LGBTQ communities in historical or contemporary national and transnational frames.
Residents of California, may I present your tax dollars at work.
My spell/grammar checker flagged two non-words in this ad, and my brain flagged at least eight unknown, and perhaps unknowable concepts. I would like to meet whomever they hire for this position. It might be indicative of how the “academic” mind works these days.

Meet, maybe. Engage in conversation? Probably not.
They want an expert in “queer migrations”? Who knew there was such a thing? Queers migrate? They can’t immigrate like the rest of us?
Like birds, maybe? Perhaps the University wants to study their migration routes as they fly south for the winter?
“I would like to meet whomever they hire for this position. It might be indicative of how the “academic” mind works these days.”
I would like to see the salary of this person. It might be indicative of the hierarchy of value UC places on different jobs. I bet the janitors and security workers would like to know, too.
Coconuts migrate?
Is that an African swallow or a European swallow?. . . .racist!
Of course it’s a Chinese swallow, and naturally I am even more racist for saying so.
You left off the last sentence:
This position is part of a campus-wide cluster hire in migration/immigration, with the expectation of continuing collaboration among faculty hires.
I read it to Mr AZ and he had another word for the word after “cluster”.
Let me guess….🤔
RushB,
Residents of California, may I present your tax dollars at work destroying the minds and lives of the next generation.
Regards,
Jim
If the pestilence could do us one single favor it would be to clear the intellectual air of the awful po-mo fug coming out of women’s/gender studies departments. Too much to hope for, no doubt.
And if they had an add for a professor of philosophy or theology? Would that really be any better use of our tax dollars or just one we were more familiar with?
Schumer is probably holding up the McConnell Bill to get more funding for BS just like this … and of course, money for abortions!
There is some value in the study of philosophy and theology. None at all in this nonsense.
Better.Yes.
Yes, it would be a better use. Those are real subjects of scholarly study . . .
Julia,
You fail to understand Val. He is a man of science, yes, science, science, and more science. Everything else is just some weird grey nonsense to him. Thus he can’t make a distinction between the highest philosophy that Western Civilization has ever produced and two-bit woke drivel.
Science uber alles! (could somebody please get me an umlaut?)
Regards,
Jim
Yes, they migrate towards high paying university plush jobs where they don’t really have to do or know a damn thing.
But where they can celebrate the mass suicides of less fortunate Americans.
