Van Jones Warns Democrats
Van Jones (former Obama official, current CNN Contributor) has a warning for Democrats following the State of the Union address. They need to take Trump seriously if they want to win. Trump has a great week. His acquittal is all but guaranteed, Iowa was a disaster for the Democrats, and the State of Union speech was strong. Trump is signaling that he is going to do something that Republicans have traditionally not done well — he is courting the Black vote. He is helping them in “real life.”

To me, taking Trump seriously would be trying to put the Pelosi-speech-ripping thing behind them fast. Also, ending the constant talk of additional impeachment investigations. If Democrats want to win, they need to take their jobs seriously; no more stunts. Show the country what they want to do and how it will be better.
Basically, I think things are going as well as possible for a Trump re-election. I don’t think Democrats have the ability to be serious.

I agree. Their idea of “serious” is to pander. Warren publicly said she would have a “young trans person” interview her nominee to head the Dept of Ed. for goodness sake! No seriousness in site this election cycle
How can they put it behind them if we remind them every single day between now and election day how mean and petty that was.

Trump does not need to pander to anybody. He just needs to create an environment that all Americans can thrive in.
I think the election results in 2020 will be a lot closer to the election results in 1972 than 2016. Remember that Nixon was personally unpopular yet won in a landslide.
I think there’s a good chance Republicans take back the House as well.
Trump’s not going to top 400 electoral votes (and could well lose). Too many big states that are unreachable.
It would be *really* interesting (the way a 20-car pileup on the interstate is interesting) if the outright open commie* won the Dem nomination and ran against Trump in the general election though.
*I mean Bernie Sanders. I can see that “outright open commie” doesn’t necessarily narrow it down enough.
Depends on how much the Democrats cheat. People are saying that the Iowa Caucus shows how inept they are. Rather, I think the confusion out of Iowa shows that they were all cheating. They know how to cheat Republicans. They got mixed up when they tried to cheat each other.
The Democrats, although they probably don’t know it, are a long term fundamental threat. Trump has 4 years to undo the threat, but it’s different than we all think. Our schools are producing the mindless kids who will elect a Democrat in 4 to 8 years and after that, unless we’ve built hard defenses, it’s probably over. As we’ve seen with the attack on Trump, the Bureaucratic Federal government from top to bottom is the enemy, and they’re getting bigger and more powerful. They had a set back as they failed to elect Hillary and then failed to dislodge Trump. They’re not a bunch of brown shirted thugs, they’re well educated, dedicated, focused, and see themselves as the most valuable folks around. The problem is that the Federal government in a place as vast and diverse as the US has to have a very limited mandate, about what the founders gave it. These folks do not understand that fact.

I don’t think Trump will top 400, but he will almost certainly win. Absent a black swan he will win. He is now the safe choice.
As for unreachable states? Other than California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New York, no state is a safe Democrat state. Even New Jersey. I am not saying Trump will win all the traditionally blue states, but he is going to win some. Especially if he peels off black and Hispanic votes. A lot of states considered unreachable will go for Trump, especially those where the blue collar vote is still important. Virginia will likely go red due to Dem overreach on the state level. Pennsylvania and Ohio will stay red due to fracking.
Cheating? Cheating is a point-after try. It can shift the vote 1%. The vote won’t be that close in most states.
Guys, stop playing defense and go on offence. Go after Democrat Senate and House seats. Take advantage of the moment. Democrat morale is crumbling. They can be routed if a push is made. Trump understands this, and that is why he made the SotU speech he gave. Get the Democrats running and keep up the skeer.
After 8 years of Obama, this will be nearly impossible . . .
One of the things Democrats need to stop doing is telling everyone how bad things are. Things are pretty darned good, all things considered. When they try to say how terrible things are, nobody wants to hear it. Of course, they can’t give Trump (or any other Republican) any credit for anything being good, so they have to tell us how terrible things are. I think it’s a losing strategy. Most people in America look at the news and hear the doom and gloom, then walk out the door and experience something different.
I think that the demonstration of insanity in the Democratic Party is the result of the President’s super-power. He accomplishes it by being combative, outrageous, and even obnoxious. He’s the World Champion of Trolling. He infuriates them enough that they actually tear off their masks, in order to yell back more effectively.
It’s not pretty, but I think that it is genius.
He may now be in a position to stop. If he acts calmly and normally between now and the election, I think that a lot of people will forget their outrage. He’ll look Presidential, as he did last night, while they may go on ripping up his speeches.
I don’t know about you, but I was better off in most ways…no in ALL ways, under Obama. Not because of him, mind you. In spite of him. Things shoe-shine back and forth. Generally, we are better off today than we were yesterday, and it will be better tomorrow than it was today.
It isn’t all that hard for them to make that case under Obama.

There have been so many, “This is definitely going to wind up in a campaign commercial,” moments, Trump might not have time for all of them.
I hope our Third District Republican Party is listening . . . but I suspect they’ll just put up some token old guy to challenge Ron Kind again.
Worse off for us. Better now, but still not the best, mainly because of the cost of healthcare. One more huge expense and we are doomed.
So, get involved. Start with your county party. Ask them who is running in the 3rd District Primary. Get their positions, pick the one that looks best, and start campaigning for that person.
Someday when I have time and the kids are out on their own. At this point in my life, it’s not possible.
Of course, the question is asked in general. This is why the MSM seeks out those who have not faired better under Trump and use them to “prove” Trump is lying about the economy.
There were times I was better off financially under Clinton than under W., but I still preferred George W. Bush over “Blue-Dress Bill” any day . . .
They know it. They may have counted their basilisks before they all hatched, but a lot of them have hatched, more are hatching and thanks to the long march through the institutions, the eggs are all over the place.
Even if Trump is a turning point and not just a bump in the road, this is going to be a very long fight.
The low turnout of democrats at caucuses was stunning.
It is not a full-time thing. Even a few hours a month helps. I got involved when I was in my late 30s, and had my kids take part. They enjoyed it. A few times they served as runners in the local county conventions. Once they turned eighteen I used them as election clerks when I served as an election judge.
The first day in my adult life that I was involuntarily unemployed was January 21st, 2009, the day after Obama’s inauguration. I remember watching his speech in the cafeteria during lunch on my last day.
• Schiff has nailed the “Trump is a Russian agent” flag to the mast. The media is supporting him, and a lot of Democrats buy it.
• Schiff is positioning himself to replace Feinstein when she steps down.
• The documented abuses up until now took place under Trump because of Obama stay-behinds who are now being protected not just by their comrades but by people whose desire to protect the FBI, CIA, and DOJ is greater than their commitment to their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution (they may well be rationalizing this by thinking that collateral damage is unavoidable and it’s better that their institutions look good.)
• If the agencies can stonewall long enough so that Durham’s investigation drag on into the summer before they can produce indictments, the easier it will be for the Dems to spin the indictments as partisan revenge. If Trump loses, it all will go away anyway.
I don’t particularly like Trump, but he is already creating an environment that all Americans can thrive in.
I just note that he refers to the democrats as “we.”

Well…I guess that was true for me as well for a while. My healthcare costs went up under Obamacare. But not hugely. Now they’ve gone down, but that is largely because I’m on a group plan with a much larger company. At least, that’s what I suspect.
