Jumping the Gun on Iowa Voting
I’m in Idaho, not Iowa. But I’m a poll worker, which means I receive an absentee ballot ahead of every election, in this case the Republican primary. Which gives me a chance to both get ahead of the Iowans and provide a little heartburn to the NT faction.
Last time, I marked the ballot for Ted Cruz, who was somewhere around my fourth pick, in forlorn hope of keeping out my 16th-of-17 choice. This time, I’ll admit I was wrong on that, and make him my first choice.

I have never agreed more with someone I dislike so thoroughly. But the proof is in the pudding, I’ll vote for Trump even though he is, “Impeached for Life!” Like that matters (ask Bill Cinton.)

Well, I would first like to vote for a Republican who isn’t disqualified as Trump is.
I would vote for any of the other sixteen Republican candidates in 2016 before I would vote for any Democrat.
If we could master that time-space continuum thing and bring back folks from the dead, I would vote for any former Republican President or Nominee in the last 136 years over any Democrat running today. Yes to Romney, McCain, W., Dole, H.W., Reagan, Ford, Nixon, Goldwater, Ike, Dewey, Alf Landon, Herbert Hoover, Calvin Coolidge, Warren G. Harding, Charles Evan Hughes, Taft, Teddy Roosevelt, William McKinley over any Democrat today, including Biden and Bloomberg.
The first Republican over whom I would potentially draw the line would be our 1884 nominee, the anti-catholic James G. Blaine, the congenital liar from the State of Maine. I would vote for Biden, Bloomberg and Klobuchar over James G. Blaine, but that was 136 years ago. (Punxsutawney Phil has been forecasting on Groundhog Day for only 134 years.) And I would likely vote for Blaine over Sanders or Warren.
I see Trump as uniquely disqualified, and disqualified to the extent that the supporting Trump secondarily disqualifies members of Congress. I see Trump and Trumpism as a cancer on the Republican Party which must be eradicated, just as cancer in my body was twice eradicated, by chemotherapy and surgery.
The Gulag in Tempe is the worst! Thank goodness I am a UofA Wildcat, and not an ASU Scum Devil.

So how did Weld get to the top of the ballot? Did they draw straws?
I actually know that: The ballots are not all alike, they are printed in several batches with the name order different on each. (I’m not sure if they are rotated or randomized.)

So you have since concluded that Ted Cruz would have made a poor president? I admit that Donald Trump is better than I feared, but I would still much prefer that Ted Cruz were president today.
I liked Ted because he was willing to stick his neck out and [CoC] people off in the name of smaller government. I like Trump because he’s willing to shoot his mouth off and [CoC] people off in the name of, well, Trump, but since he’s identified himself with draining the swamp, that’s good enough for me. And of course Cruz is not on the ballot. I’d love to see him on SCOTUS, and I’ve been wondering whether his podcast adventure is a way of trying to get some of that Trumpian media mojo working. Time will tell, I guess.
