Many years ago, William Buckley described himself standing in front of history yelling “Stop!” His magazine has tried to duplicate that posture but they got it wrong. History has reversed. The ship is turning. The iceberg is stationary.
Feels like Vicksburg/Gettysburg in the same month signaling the turning of the tide. The desperate Mueller/Schiff attack failed. Now the booming economy and the long-awaited counterattack by Barr/Durham can be Grant and Sherman grinding to victory. Huzzah!

If they do end the impeachment farce today or tomorrow, your analogy would be even closer, as the two victories occurred a day apart; Gettysburg ended July 3 and Vicksburg surrendered on July 4.
The only thing “liberal” about the Left is the desire to liberate you from your liberty and sovereignty. We should take back the word. The Left’s Orwellian corruption of language is perhaps its most effective weapon.
And, yes, MAGA and MUKGA! And just watch how the predictions of economic apocalypse do not play out with BREXIT.

The Vicksburg/Gettysburg analogy hadn’t occurred to me, but it’s wonderfully apt. The Battle of Gettysburg of course took place during the first three days of July 1863, and then Vicksburg fell on the Fourth of July itself. Wouldn’t it be marvelous of the Senate voted to acquit the president today, the very day of Brexit?
Here in Ireland the mood among the political/media class has been a mix of bitterness, resentment and deep mourning. All of this after three years of CNN-style contempt for the “rednecks” in the US who elected President Trump and for the “Little Englanders” who turned their backs on the EU, both of which groups are “racist to the core”, apparently.
The modern dilemma of the western world: Elites bitching, moaning about the absence of the nirvana they are not permitted to impose or listening to their delusional self-congratulations for societal destruction and economic stagnation if we do let them run things.
The chattering class aside, I have been curious about the mood in Ireland among the common folk. Are they worried about relations with the north? Angry at the English (or at the whole country?) Is anybody blaming the EU?
Most Irish people support Irish Unity but an influential group (media/political) is terrified at the idea of a million socially conservative Northern Protestants slowing our inexorable march to progressive Nirvana.
The vast majority of Irish people support the EU and fear the potential adverse impact of Brexit on our economy. I’m a dissenter from this view.
Hardly anyone blames the EU- again I find myself in a very small minority. If the EU had remained a trading bloc with close ties amongst member states instead of pushing for a “United States of Europe” there would be no Brexit.
Meanwhile your elites are busy having the Irish commit national suicide.

They conflate trade with all kinds of neocon, or Rockefeller Republican stuff, globalism, international political superstructures, or whatever you wanna call it, and then they call it “nice” or something.
People want and need fair trade. They want to be sovereign. When you go beyond that it gets very complicated very fast.
One of the smartest things I’ve heard this year is, James Carafano saying that the whole argument about nationalism and whether it’s bad or not, is really about sovereignty and how you organize it.
Yeah, Yuval’s point that the choices are nationalism or globalism has stuck with me. Down with globalism!!
But, specifically, what is Frum thinking about our lack of “generosity” under Trump? A new Marshall Plan? What does he mean?
I think what it means is, what he really wants, deep down he knows it doesn’t really make any sense, or he can’t sell it. People like him either believe in paradigms that have totally fallen apart, or this new era really screws up their lifestyle.
If they don’t know a lot about government and economics, and have actual libertarian sensibilities don’t listen to them. Don’t listen to anyone that fell for the Russia stuff.

Did you listen to Klavan’s Thursday podcast this week? He talks about how the globalists know so much that isn’t so. Smart people behaving stupidly.
Just ask Frum if he thinks that the BNA was a good deal for Canada or not. He is arguing that Canada should have continued to allow Britain to make all our decisions.

Once they lost the economic argument. That people were willing to take an economic hit in exchange for sovereignty they had nothing left. Because the EU had no compelling argument than money.
One of their pitch’s is we have to create a hegemon to deal with China and the USA. That may be all well and good if they don’t run it like crap.
Supposedly the EU put tariffs or whatever on African goods. All of these deals require inflation not better purchasing power. So the Africans suffer.
The thing about elitists is they have zero awareness of the anger directed at them.
Of course not. They know they are right. Therefore anyone angry at them is wrong and can be disregarded.
Or maybe they’re aware, but it’s just what they expect from boomer-rubes, knuckle-dragging apes.
