House Impeaches President Trump on 2 Articles

Wednesday evening, the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump for “abuse of power” and “obstruction of Congress.” Both were related to his dealings with Ukraine. He is the third American president to be impeached.

If and when the House forwards the articles to the GOP-controlled Senate, the president faces a near-certain acquittal. Neither result comes as a surprise since Democrats began promising impeachment before Trump was even inaugurated.

No Republicans voted to impeach. Every Democrat voted for the first article except Reps. Jefferson Van Drew (NJ) and Collin Peterson (MN). For the second article, Rep. Jared Golden (ME) joined Van Drew and Peterson to vote against. Independent Rep. Justin Amash (MI) voted for each article, while presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard (D–HI) voted present on both.

As the House voted, Trump enjoyed a packed Christmas rally at an arena in Battle Creek, MI.

The founders are turning over in their graves. Impeachment was never to be about policy issues.

As surprising as waking up on New Year’s Day to find out it’s January. The faster the Senate gets this over with the better. Going into an election year this is massively stupid. But they are intent of reaping the whirlwind.

Probably the most hollow gesture to ever come out of the lower chamber.  Shameful…and, if they were capable of such things, almost as embarrassing this:

    Jon,

This should go down in history as the Kangeroo Impeachment. To accomplish this travesty the Democrats threw away all concepts of due process and any definition of an impeachable offense as defined by the Constitution and fully explained by the Federalist Papers.

To sum up, the Democrats are scum and may they rot in hell for this.

    Regards,

    Jim

Was this worth wasting three years on, Democrats? How about you, Labour and Tory anti-Brexiteers? Ignoring the vote of the people for absolutely nothing. Well, nothing but handing your opponents a huge electoral cudgel.

It’s classic leftism — total destruction of the meaning of words. “Impeachment” is a joke now.

While, like @ejhill I’m not surprised, I still can’t help wondering how in the hell we got here. Shame on the FBI and the DOJ and everyone involved. And where was that FISA judge until now? These dregs of humanity may have succeeded in placing an asterisk next to Trump’s name in the history books, but theirs should be on the same page as John Wilkes Booth and Benedict Arnold. Just despicable. I can’t wait for 2020.

It will be interesting to see if the House will withhold sending over the Articles of Impeachment until the Senate creates the procedure for the trial.

They are such total representatives of diversity that they decided they would be supported by the  public because after all, Trump’s style is so un-Presidential.

To them being the President requires  a soft spoken, amiable in appearance type of guy like Obama.

Donald Trump’s style  is more like that of a   dock worker who happened to win the lottery.

Meanwhile he has accomplished so many things, I can’t begin to list them all. But luckily for me The Washington Examiner has gone and done it:

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/washington-secrets/trumps-list-289-accomplishments-in-just-20-months-relentless-promise-keeping

The above list only goes as far as Oct 2018, so one of my fave picks of Trump’s accomplishments, the grounding of the notoriously dangerous airliner, the Boeing Max, is not even on it.

No. Drag it out. Point out every corrupt abuse. Point out all the actions Schiff has taken which would have him disbarred and jailed if he did them as a prosecutor.

Get him to state that the Constitution does not apply to his kangaroo court. Then pass a retroactive rules change, like he did. Change the punishment for contempt of the Senate by a House Manager/Prosecutor in an impeachment trial to drawing and quartering in the well of the Senate. Bring in the horses.

The Democrats have been calling for this since January 2017. The only reason they’ve waited until now is so they can pre-emptively place a cloud over the 2020 election.

Let’s face it, in 2017 the Democrats thought Quid Pro Quo was an appetizer you ordered at a Japanese restaurant and Ukraine was a miracle drug for ulcers. The actual crime was never important.

No.  Democrats did not have sufficient grounds to successfully impeach Trump, until Trump loaded the gun himself on July 25, 2019 and shot himself in the foot.  To quote, I think Peggy Noonan, Trump self-impeached.

I could imagine them even trying to hold onto them until after the election, in a desperate gambit for a more receptive Senate. I don’t think they will get the kind of trial they want in the Senate.

Dem’s had a weak Obstruction case after the Mueller Report.  Mueller testified in a poor presentation on July 24, 2019.  On the next day, perhaps feeling his oats, Trump shot himself in the foot.

Very telling.  We know who is on the losing end of this and it ain’t Trump or the Republicans.

    …with blanks.

As so many people have pointed out, he didn’t actually do anything illegal, and the Democrats had to spend the last five months making up a crime that they could accuse him of.

I voted for Martha McSally in the last election.  But if she refuses to vote for witnesses in the impeachment trial, it would be hard for me to vote for her in 2020.

71% of Americans and 64% of Republicans want to hear from witnesses in the trial in the Senate.

And the Constitution was not a revered document to be honored, but “a living, breathing document” to be changed according  to every trendy social fad that comes along. But now all of a sudden they can’t stop blathering about “The Founders” this and “The Framers” that, and “Honoring our Constitution.” They make me sick. They say whatever sounds good right now and change the rules and move the goalposts to suit their need of the moment with no regard for even five minutes into the future for the terrible consequences. These disgusting people must never be allowed in power again.

Yes, but Republicans and Democrats want to hear from  different sets of witnesses. The GOP base wants those witnesses the House Dems refused to allow.

In 1999, the house GOP was desperate for a real trial, with witnesses and presentation of evidence and  They were refused; the Senate’s vote was predetermined, and they wanted it over with soonest.

For Senators who love to hear themselves talk, sitting in silence for days or weeks is torture. A sober, thorough examination of evidence and witnesses is not something I’d bet on.
