ACF PoMoCon #7: Intellectual Dark Web

Hello and welcome to very online America–I talked to my friend Oliver Traldi about the online culture and academic wokeness that provoked the backlash of the intellectual dark web. To an extent, the internet gave voice to the pathological side of America, which is a complicated mess of escaping real life–meat space!–but also getting new things out of life that then turn out to have certain costs. Online conflict is between the woke attempt to perfect TED talks as a new ideology-etiquette for the urban, wealthier, more educated side of America–and their adversaries, who are themselves split between liberals and just angry people on the internet who don’t like woke bullying. The IDW attempt to restore Enlightenment public reason is for that reason noble, since it’s so unlikely that any institutional alliance could summon majority support.

Interesting, although I can’t imagine how things are going to get better if Trump is defeated (or removed from office).

Sad that elections these days mean so much to various sides just from a cultural war perspective when elections are supposed to be about many other things too.

    Indeed.

I dunno that things would get better–but I believe Oliver is right that a Trump defeat would calm down academic madness. I dunno, however, that a second Trump victory would lead to four more years of madness. People might get used to it-

If Trump is removed the nation will be healed and whole under Democrat rule don’t you know.  We are only a divided nation when a Republican is in office.  Been that way since Lincoln.

Or Republicans could start protesting! People might care & refuse to be humiliated. Today, it would be an opportunity to bring Chick-fil-a to heel. Another day, it will be another opportunity. If Republicans feel like it. Of course, there are elections ahead, so at least that will bring Republicans out to make their will known publicly.
