Mitt Romney’s Gary Hart Moment

In 1987, with rumors circulating of affairs, Gary Hart challenged the media to follow him around. They did and soon found out that he was having an affair with Donna Rice. In an article published Sunday, Mitt Romney revealed that he had an anonymous Twitter account. The reporters looked for Romney relatives who had few followers and soon found out that the account was named “Pierre Delecto.” It’s now been made private, but people took screenshots. I assume that these have not been doctored.

Talk about an unforced error. If Mitt had not revealed the existence of the account, it’s very unlikely that its existence would ever have been discovered. It was established in 2011 and no one had commented about it. It only took reporters a few hours to figure out its name. He looks like a hypocrite, attacking Trump for acting unpresidential while using an anonymous account to defend himself.

The Never Trumpers are loving John Kasich right now. Total RINO menace. He changed just as much as Joe Scarborough. All these people care about is money and power.

Only the true hardcore #NeverTrumpers seem to be putting much into Kasich reviving his 2020 primary hopes. Softer #NeverTrump types like Jonah Goldberg, and others who’ve dealt with Kasich and his personality when the cameras aren’t on, tend to eviscerate him as much as they do Trump, albeit for slightly different reasons.

This is worth the read. Who Mitt follows (just about every prominent Never Neo Con – of course!) and the tweets he ‘likes’.

Notable for me is his likes of George Conway tweets ( Kellyanne’s husband). I find George’s undermining of his wife’s work and station to be utterly despicable. Anyone who preaches family values and/or basic feminism should be appalled at his behavior.

Jonah Goldberg is one of the anti-Trump types I trust. He has a lot of seriously libertarian sensibilities and he’s genuinely against big government and he can explain the problems it creates. He’s very smart.

People like Tom Nichols and Bill Kristol are just insane.

I really respected Mitt Romney a lot, but Trump’s election drove him and Paul Ryan completely insane.

I don’t think it drove them insane. I tend to think that President Trump’s election revealed what they (and many others) had kept carefully hidden. The permanent bipartisan fusion party will brook no dissent.

Yes, it seems the breed of gentleman conservative is having an identity crisis of some sort.

I do think it is important to follow rules, agreed upon by all parties, but that is where Trump has broken with Republicans the most. He sees more clearly the Democrats don’t really care about rules. He also seems to understand the potential destruction Democrats represent to America. Trump is not a scholar, but has better instincts. Ironically, Romney’s fake account reminds me that Trump assumed a fake character one himself.

Someone on Twitter (@hradzka) recommended that people come up with their own “Pierre Delecto/Carlos Danger” style name for political fake online presence.

The rules are that the first name has to be a common name from an ethnicity or country to which you do not belong and the last name has to start with “D” and be vaguely ridiculous.

    I went with Renee Deviant.

Ah, this reminds me of the olden days when conservatives could take over the site with hilarious hashtag games like this, before Dorsey implemented his secret censorship algorithm and put a stop to all that nonsense.

My fun activity is go on to social media and ask a John McCain supporter how he moved the ball politically to the right for them.

The better question is how Trump has moved anything to the right that McCain wouldn’t have done. Definitely not on foreign policy or the deficit.

I wonder if FOX will spend more time on impeachment and Syria or on this huge Mitt Romney Twitter scandal. Tough choice.

I doubt if McCain would have done anything about illegal immigration. Trump’s been rolling back ObamaCare to the extent he can without Congress passing a bill. McCain lied in 2016 about voting to overturn ObamaCare.

Trump is great on the media and sticking up for cultural issues, too. He’s exposed the deep state.

Hopefully the GOP is learning something.

Fair points, at least on illegal immigration.  On ACA, I sort of assume his mind was too messed up at that point. Trump’s kept ALL the benefits of ACA. and made some lame attempts at reducing its revenue….so overall useless.
