First Trailer Out for Gosnell Movie
After interference by Hollywood, tech companies, and the courts, the creators of a movie based on Kermit Gosnell have finally released the first trailer.
A 2014 grand jury report accused Gosnell of killing hundreds of newborns over the course of decades in Philadelphia. He was ultimately convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and one count of involuntary manslaughter.
The movie was directed by Nick Searcy (Justified, From the Earth to the Moon), produced by Phelim McAleer and Anne McElhinney, and opens Oct. 12. The filmmakers were thrown off Kickstarter and most of Hollywood closed their doors, apparently due to the anti-abortion subject matter. The film was also blocked by the judge in the Gosnell trial, but that issue has since been settled.
What do you think, Ricochetti? Will you catch it in the theaters?

I tried listening to a true crime podcast that covered Gosnell. I got through two episodes before I gave up because of all the horrors.
It made David Cronenberg look normal.
I am glad someone got to make a movie of this.
Though good luck seeing this in a theatre.
I cannot imagine anything less appealing. No way.
Whoa! What a trailer!
It will be hard to find in a theater. but that’s why we have Netflix and Amazon.com.
No mention of @andrewklavan? Wasn’t he the scriptwriter?
So they won’t show it too?
I have a feeling that it will be shown at many movie theaters nationwide. Their huge gravitational attraction to money is much greater than their attraction to abortion causes. Just look back at the Mel Gibson film about Christ – turned out to be a blockbuster.
IMDB credits Klavan for “teleplay” and two others for “screenplay”.
No Rotten Tomatoes entry yet:

D’Souza put his two films into over 1,000 theatres.
I’d pay to see it.
I sent money to support the production and I’ll buy tickets, even if I can’t make myself watch it. We need to support truth-tellers in our society more than ever!
Except maybe the sequel where PP markets the organs.
Want to bet it doesn’t end up on Netflix?
I donated to the GoFundMe effort ( don’t think it was technically that but the equivalent). Will probably end up either buying a DVD, or purchasing the download. I suspect it might be hard to find on the usual options like Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV.
We’ll see.
In fairness, both of D’Souza’s previous movies are available on Netflix and are actually Prime movies on Amazon. Netflix and Amazon aren’t nearly as hostile to conservatives as sometimes supposed. Audible (owned by Amazon) is a downright trove for conservatives.
In our twenty years together, Steven and I have been to something like 10 movies in the theater. Three of them were to support directors or producers that seemed to be unfairly, even viciously targeted, including Gibson and D’Souza. I also went to see Wonder Woman–not my usual fare–with a friend just because of the way Gal Gadot was being singled out for being Israeli. So, yeah, we’re willing to put $$ down to support a cause.
The trailer looks good, even though the subject is so distasteful. Still, something that should be seen. What say, @steven-seward?
PS: Not to derail the OP, this observant Jew (with good knowledge of Christianity) thought Gibson’s movie was well done and not remotely anti-Semitic. Very much the Catholic Church’s take on the Gospels, I thought. Stations of the cross and all that. I also thought Wonder Woman was great and Gal Gadot particularly wonderful. Really perfect casting.
It has been quite some time since I’ve gone to see a movie in the theater.
I’m going to this one.
I can’t imagine it not being available on Netflix or Amazon.
I would suggest that Pro-Life groups rent out a theater, and show it. That’s how we got Atlas Shruggled in Flagstaff, and we sold out the theater. The sequel was shown in the theater, and we didn’t have to rent out the theater.
I can.
According to this article, they have a distribution deal to open in 750 theaters in mid-October. Good on them.
Ya, but the fireworks haven’t started.
I predict picketing.
Bring it.
Indeed. We don’t bring 500,000 people to DC in the sleet in support of right-to-work or comparative advantage after all. We got this one.
But theaters don’t want picketing at their business, as it will drive away customers of other movies, hence they drop the screening of the film.
I might buy a ticket just as a show of support. But no, I don’t want to see this. Yuck.
Let’s not borrow trouble.
I am not advocating, I am predicting. (I doubt that many PP folks read Ricochet posts.)
To all,
Isn’t this so very strange? Abortion has been with us for over forty years. It was originally sold on the basis that it would end ‘back alley abortions’. Over time it was transformed into a new right of women to terminate their pregnancy up until birth and even that boundary has been challenged. The moral slippery slope of so-called medical ethicists never stops pushing. Without any resistance, we will end up with postnatal abortions very soon.
Gosnell undermines the whole foundation. Nothing could be more back alley than Gosnell. It is more like the right of poor underaged women to be butchered by an abortion mill because no one wants them to have children. The eugenic mentality is always close at hand. The medical industry has become ever more sophisticated not just technically but financially. Always looking for new opportunities to monetize.
Everyone in this country should be required to see Gosnell. Even if they are pro-abortion they need to understand what is really going on. You must have standards that you will enforce and you must have moral lines that you will not cross. If not, you can just forget all the virtue signaling. You aren’t virtuous so knock it off.
Regards,
Jim
