Ricochet Goes Country!

Or more precisely, went country some two decades ago. *record scratch*

Twenty years ago?! Before the website even existed, were Peter, Rob, and James singing to the sound of fiddles and Fender Guitars? No. Back in the mid-to-late ’90s, there was a country band named Ricochet that had a few chart-topping hits, one of which was “He Left a Lot to be Desired” off of their 1997 album Blink of an Eye:

The ’80s and ’90s were something of a golden age for country groups, among them Restless Heart, Southern Pacific, Highway 101, the much too short-lived S-K-O, the Gibson/Miller Band, Boy Howdy, Burnin’ Daylight, The Buffalo Club, and The Tractors amongst many, many others.

Ricochet still performs to this very day, but only one of the band’s original members remains. From time to time I wonder if any of their current or former members have ever happened by this site…

Catchy tune. I like the double meaning of the song’s title and refrain.

This domain never belonged to the band. Before us, Ricochet.com belonged to a wireless internet provider. This is them in 2001:

That logo is sooooo me. I mean at 3:30 in the morning while letting the dog do her business. Me with only one shoe on…

But they really kicked it into high gear by 2006:

What’s with the “o?” Does that represent the place where your internet drops out?

    Speaking of weird, off-kilter Os…

That’s us on June 28, 2011. Ah, those were the days. I believe Tech Support was in the former East Germany at that point.

Don’t forget Ricochet the film, wherein John Lithgow plays Peter repaying Rob (played by Denzel Washington) for getting him into the web community business.

Did stage lighting for two of them (the Bryant brothers) when they were the Lariat Band in the late 1980s-early 90s and playing minor gigs in West Texas, before forming Ricochet in 1993 (their dad was part of the Lariat Band, while mom did security at the Safeway in Pecos, Texas).  As Ricochet, they also have a great a cappella version of the National Anthem you can download on YouTube.

Somehow I visualize Peter, Rob, and James as looking more like this.

WYRK in Buffalo plays the National Anthem every day at noon – I’ve heard that rendition many times. Very well done.
