Canadian Univ. Bureaucrats Destroy Lindsay Shepherd

For any of you who know people who still do not believe that the university system in the Northern Hemisphere is anything but a repository of Left-Think-ism, this video will change their minds:

https://youtu.be/9YdFlKaJv4g

Higher education is no longer about any type of actual thinking process or debate. Now due to the incessant demands of the left and the restrictions of the PC universe-Uber-Alles, the world of academia is only about avoiding — in total — any discussion of what an opposing side to the PC universe might consist of.

Here is a meeting between teaching assistant Lindsay Shepherd and Wilfrid Laurier University representatives. Shepherd was called in for violating the school’s Gendered and Sexual Violence policy by screening a few minutes of a TV Ontario program which questioned the use of gender-neutral pronouns.

Notice the guilt by association that the university officials immediately try to bring into the discussion to shame Ms. Shepherd into abandoning a teacher’s universal right to have a debate. “Do you need to realize that one of the people who takes that same side of the argument that you present is a White Supremacist, who has done this and that awful thing, including publishing personal info about his detractors in order to have people contact and perhaps injure or kill such detractors?” (So, therefore, you should not go near that side of the debate.) And unfortunately, the “guilt by association” is not the only logical fallacy that the officials employ by which to unnerve this young teacher.

The university officials will not even show her the complaint by which they have the right to punish her! And toward the end of the officials’ spiel, the officials point out that these “students are very young”… “they do not possess the logical tools by which they could take an argument or debate apart.”

Well holy hell, how the heck will the “children” at that university ever learn how to take apart a debate if no teacher there can ever present two sides of any issue?

Their speech is the very modern NKVD tortures.

Please, seriously how this could have happened? On University? I don’t know… their careers should be over. There is no misunderstanding or misinterpretation at all, this is pure political agenda with loads of lies. I am not a good speaker, I have no time at the moment for this, but I surely will learn my articulate speech to just point out that this is not Left vs Right anymore, this is just pure disinformative terror.

But all of you please… Every liberal arts student and graduate should stand up for her. I am listening and I don’t even know which part was the most disgusting.

I want to Koch Brothers to start a non-accredited liberal arts college where you just go to learn how to think and learn Austrian economics. Half of this is already done on the internet already anyway. Go two years and then go be a welder.  lol

Checked it out and then that link led to others, and it is like being inside the tale end of a Smithsonian-style museum I had not previously  ventured into, and then finding I am locked in overnight. Good times, really and truly. So thank you.

The students of Wilfrid Laurier University are very young and very gullible, because Wilfrid Laurier University is apparently being run by dullards.

If the faculty isn’t up to teaching them, why should anyone hire them?

This presumes they have the ability to conceive of an opposing view that’s worthy of discussion.

The good news is Lindsey has found herself ejected by the left, but found a soft landing on the right. (Like so many others)

Her podcast with Dave Rubin was terrific – we’ll be hearing and seeing a lot from her in the future.

Yes! Although I would modify the above comment  to read “This presumes they have the ability to conceive of an opposing view.”

In the province of Ontario, there is no such thing as a private university.  They are all creatures of the provincial government.

This is not the case in all the provinces.

Wilfred Laurier University is considered a “comprehensive” university, which means it does not offer medical or doctoral degrees, but does offer master’s and professional degrees.  It is located in Ontario’s “High Tech School Triangle” along with the University of Waterloo and the University of Guelph.

In the Maclean’s magazine ranking of Canadian universities, Wilfred Laurier is in the middle-of-the-pack of the “comprehensive” category.

In the US News And World Report’s ranking of international universities, Wilfred Laurier was the lowest-ranked Canadian university.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rankings_of_universities_in_Canada

(For what it’s worth, my alma mater, the University of Windsor, was near the bottom of the Maclean’s ranking, but was six slots higher than Wilfred Laurier in the US News & World Report ranking.)

Thanks, Annefy – I was able to find several podcasts of this young lady and was so happy to know she is alive and continuing to bring attention to the “poverty of mind and spirit” that is  so eagerly disseminated by the illogical  left.

Don’t think I watched the one you posted, so will check it out later today.

I last heard she started a free speech club on campus. Their first activity was to watch the full video that got her in hot water in its entirety. I would not mess with this Ms. Shepard, she’s got steel in her.

More than just clever, she is also brave – and for one so young. She did not back down even though these thugs brought her close to tears. These are the brown shirts of our age and it takes an unusual person to stand up to them.

When this story broke a while back I listened to the whole revolting interrogation and then her interview with Dave Rubin. Mr Rubin is to be commended for doing heroic work in support of freedom and for having the integrity to reject the regressive Left in favor of classical liberalism: freedom of expression and association.

NBC News with Lester Holt tonight portrayed this with audio from her saying some races are less intelligent – or something to that effect – and that she was making comments that in some cases, segregation isn’t bad.

Update: I incorrectly thought the Holt story was about Lindsay.  It was not.  It was about a teacher in FL who was fired for racist teaching.

Either it was taken out of context or there’s more here than we think. Is it possible that she did veer from the curriculum that wasn’t approved? I don’t know anything about it – this post was the first I heard of it, then the news tonight.

Was that about Lindsay Sheppard, or that teacher in Florida that just got fired?

This story first hit the news in Canada last November.  The University apologized in an open letter as did one of the professors involved.  Without the recording this happy ending might not have come about.  A sad and disgraceful incident.

There is no evidence whatsoever that she said anything about segregation, I suspect this is a case of mistaken identity.

I doubt you are talking about the woman I am talking about. This happened several years ago.  Perhaps you are referring to some woman in Florida.

Ms Shepard was not taking a position on either side. She was leaving it open to her classroom to debate the issue (this issue had nothing to do with one race or another being more  or less intelligent.) Instead the issue was regarding the demands of the liberal Ontario province that people acquiesce to the “gender neutral” pronouns being insisted on by liberals and by the government itself.

From listening to the tribunal she faced, it does appear she veered off the allowed curriculum. The college officials made it quite clear that “students are very young”… “they do not possess the logical tools by which they could take an argument or debate apart.” The former in quotes remark is verbatim; the latter is paraphrased. How it is that any college/university administrators would consider the student body to be too young and too fragile to hear both sides of a debate, I just don’t know.

I have come to the realization that none of this is happening by accident. This is being carefully planned. We are being given a choice – to go very   very Far Left; or to try and remain citizens utilizing common sense. Already in California, should you protest even the most minor matter regarding immigration, you will be castigated. Remember our state Attorney General has already stipulated that employers who will not go along with the “sanctuary state” idea can be prosecuted. Whether this means their businesses would be shuttered while the state of California decides when and if those businesses can re-open, I don’t know. Whether it means the business owners would be fined or jailed,  I don’t know. After all, usually (at least since the North taught the South the notion that state’s rights are limited), an Attorney General doesn’t come out and verbally encourage employers to violate the Federal law.

Once upon a time in an Ethics class, the professor opened up a discussion about abortion. The overwhelming majority of the class, including me, were “pro-choice, but I felt sorry for the one pro-life girl who was trying to hold her end up practically by herself. So I turned my coat and laid about me with a will. Managed to convince at least one person: myself. I’ve been pro-life ever since.

It appears that the new consensus is that Ms Shepherd did nothing wrong. A twelve minute news item emphasizes that she has been cleared:

Good to read. But I have to admit that I find this part creepy:

Laurier is prepared to engage with these important discussions in a thoughtful and determined way. I have announced a task force to delve into these issues. Further details will be announced in the days ahead.
