(Mostly) Other People’s Takes on the SOTU
Them:
I did not watch the State of the Union speech. I was fighting werewolves (or, “war-wilfs“) in Glenumbra with my Breton Templar. Then, I watched an episode of Descendants of the Sun and went to bed. But here’s what I deduced from social media:
- In a break from the previous eight SOTU addresses, the one PDT delivered was unapologetically pro-American; he said “America” more than eighty times and Democrats hated it. The word ‘America’ is now ‘divisive and exclusionary.’ Ponder that.
- Roger Simon: “Steny Hoyer and Nancy Pelosi watching Trump’s speech looked like a pair of sullen six-year-olds on a sugar crash the day after Halloween. Bernie Sanders looked mummified. Schumer was slumped so deeply in his chair he was almost falling through the crack.”
- The Democrats have become what they accused Republicans of being under Obama; a group of hatred-filled obstructionists chained to the radical elements of their party. They couldn’t applaud for record low black unemployment, record low Hispanic unemployment, or defeating ISIS. They couldn’t applaud a trillion dollars in infrastructure investment, even though they supported it under Obama. If they had shown even the slightest support for America’s successes, their ANTIFA base would have destroyed them. Those angry glowering faces on the TV screens weren’t just for Trump; they resent their new ‘Woke’ masters just as much. The ANTIFAs and the BlackLivesMatter and the #MeToos own them now, They are trapped and they hate it.
- Of a piece with that: Angry leftists forced the Washington Post to change their headline on the ‘State of the Union.’ Angry leftists thought ‘A Call for Bi-Partisanship’ was too “pro-Trump.” This is a thing that happened.
- The Gay Patriot wants to know who the wigless drag queen sitting next to Senator Cory Booker was. I think it was T-Bone.
- Cory Booker was trying to do his best Angry Man face last night. But instead of Captain Benjamin Sisko, he came off looking more like constipated Damon Wayans.
- As for Senator Wyden: A green tie and a blue jacket? I dress like a blind Eagles fan, and even I know you don’t do that.
- PDT came out in favor of church, family, patriotism and law enforcement. Democrat Media Operative Joy Reid calls these things the elements of white nationalism.
- PDT came out strongly against MS-13 murdering young Americans. Senator Kamala Harris immediately came out in favor of MS-13 murdering young Americans. More or less. Fellow traveler Joy Reid also likes her some MS-13.
- The Democrat rebuttal was delivered by a drooling idiot. Also, they dredged up a Kennedy to choke out some stale talking points.
What last night meant: The Dems are going to look really, really bad in the 10 states where Democrat Senators are facing re-election amongst electorates that voted Trump in 2016 if they don’t reject large portions of the standard Democrat platform. Meaningless, toss-away votes such as those from Manchin (WV) and Casey (PA) on this weeks Pro-Life bill aren’t going to be enough.
People are beginning to find politics more and more repulsive. People who don’t like politics are finding Democrats more and more repulsive.
I think you covered it. Missed a good speech, though.
Just working on the next one in the dynasty. Since JFK, Jr. died, they’ve been trying to find a good-looking political replacement. And here we have him. He’s a Kennedy, so everyone automatically loves him, he’s nominally Catholic so he has that going for him, and Se Habla Español.
We had to know this was coming.
The clip of Joe Manchin starting to stand, peering about at his peers and, seeing them sitting, sat back down, is making the rounds (one place is here). He should be seeing this video again and again during his re-election bid, thanks to his R opponent. “Vote for someone who’s not afraid to stand up for America!” The commercials practically write themselves.
Charlie Daniels to Chuck Schumer: I’d Love To Hear You Speak About American Veterans Like You Speak About Illegals
If we can just get word that someone took exams for him at Stanford or Harvard Law, the passing of the torch will be complete and the mantle secure.
The bad news is that he has a twin, which could lend itself to all sorts of shenanigans.
I grew up in his district. His predecessor was Barney Frank. Imagine the pain.
Point of order: I did not in fact know there were any Kennedys left. Or perhaps I was just hoping that. Given that there are still some around, then yeah I would have expected it.
I won’t ever forget the story about Otto, and I won’t ever forget the Korean guy last night with the crutches – the story is unforgettable and unforgivable.
Seriously, someone who has the Google face to art matching app should shove the Pelosi snap into it. Booker and Schumer too.
Oh people, people, kindness is not our strength, is it?
Now I gotta go find me a fire hydrant to… hydrate.
Mises.org ‘s analysis (40 minutes) (LOL)
What is the pin that Pelosi and others were wearing?
Sometimes all I can stomach are titles to articles since I presume headings are consciously chosen to hint at the contents. So I spare myself examples like “Audience boost figures questioned.” Likewise on another subject “Republicans altered secret memo on FBI” (NOT “Democrats claim ….”). And of course opinions like “Don’t normalize Trump’s speech” and “A smoother Trump with same hard edge” …as if Democrats aren’t just as hard edged on their own positions. Same press patterns continue, in other words.
