Greedy Capitalist Pigs Celebrate Massive Tax Break … by Giving Employees More Money
As soon as the House and Senate had passed the big tax reform bill Wednesday, AT&T made a big announcement. The telecom leviathan said it would give more than 200,000 US employees a special bonus of $1,000. AT&T also increased its US capital expenditures budget by $1 billion.
“This tax reform will drive economic growth and create good-paying jobs,” CEO Randall Stephenson said. “In fact, we will increase our US investment and pay a special bonus to our US employees.”
An hour later, Fifth Third Bank announced that nearly 3,000 workers will see their pay rise to $15 an hour. The company also said they will hand out $1,000 one-time bonuses to their workforce.
Then, an hour after that, Wells Fargo announced that it too will boost its minimum wage to $15 an hour. The bank also allocated $400 million for donations to the community in 2018.
Man, this tax cut news just keeps getting worse and worse.

If that $200 million were instead given to the feds to give to the poor, no less than 4 or 5 cents out of every dollar would go directly to some disadvantaged person or illegal alien with fraudulent ID.
The fiends!
Schumer Attacks AT&T for Not Helping Workers Immediately After Company Announces Widespread Bonuses
Oh, Chuckie. You are such a putz.
If you buy goods, work for a corporation, or own stock in a corporation, you are going to benefit from this tax cut. Corporations don’t pay taxes, they only collect them. Corporate taxes are either paid by customers, employees, or owners.
That’s a pretty incredible instantaneous reaction. Good for them. Hopefully it is indicative of much more of the same coming down the road. Next we should be hearing stories of billions of dollars being repatriated to the USA from abroad. I do have to say that some of the Republican Senators are complete and utter scoundrels. Bob Corker, you will not be missed. Go back to Tennessee or wherever and never show your face again.
Uh, oh the high tax states may find themselves facing their own own tax revolts. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer with their millions will die scenario seem to be okay with millions of dead potential taxpayers when they cash their checks from Planned Parenthood, but the thought of a taxpayer without an empty wallet keeps them awake at night. Full wallets versus empty conscience.
I want my puppy!
The fiends!
You should have voted for Vermin Supreme. Oh, wait, that was a pony. Never mind. Unless you want a pony…
I have about fourty shares of AT&T stock. I got them at more than the $25 a share they are now.
This!
Why don’t people get it and why don’t Republicans explain it?
This hits just keep on coming.
This is all good news but I would prefer that Wells Fargo use some of that money for employee training, maybe writing a policy manual so their employees know how to handle very common situations. I never hated a bank until I had to deal with Wells Fargo.
I want both. Thanks for offering.
Congratulations! We’ve just opened three accounts in your name.
I have found the branches to be very inconsistent. One local branch has been hugely helpful in a somewhat complicated situation.
So much winning. Not tired of it yet …
I ask this not in a condemnatory way,* but the number of companies doing this makes me wonder if Trump called up some old friends and asked them for some conspicuous displays of generosity if the bill passed.
*To the contrary, part of me would think it’s brilliant.
And AT&T (@drewinwisconsin I swear the ampersand is used correctly) could use that money to hire Americans that speak English for Their call center for when Americans that speak English call.
I have no doubt that this was coordinated, “You want this bill to pass? Well then when it does the Democrats are going to go berserk and you Mr. Boeing are going to provide cover fire.”
Just think if they had started tax reform in January, when I wanted them to do it. I told you people that the giant group hug was coming. It’s here! Let the orgy of winning begin!
And free ponies for everyone.
I just read on facebook that world will end. Again. Must resist prospect of people who work keeping more of their own money.
Of course he did. That’s called “Politics”.
I wish I worked for one of those companies instead of an industry that has been crippled by O-Care.
Corporations do hire employees, though — that’s a good thing.
Briefly, let’s think about this:
Barry raises spending to historic highs, creating (roughly) a second 10 Trillion Mountain of Doom.
Trump passes a tax cut, which lets people keep the coin that they themselves earn, and not only is he a cacadaemon of unfathomable evil, but corporations are also bad, and spontaneous dying will occur, and kittens will stop being cute. Forever.
I guess I have less in common with people who quite willingly bend the knee to their government masters, who provide all things to them, and are the source of all meaning in their lives.
I think it means I don’t like hanging with lazy quitters.
Does it matter if it was coordinated? Its time that America remembers the Ricochet’s Patron Saint Silent Cal’s words, “The business of America is business.”
