Alison Levine: Extreme Mountaineer and Polar Explorer
Alison Levine is a high altitude mountain climber, sportswoman, explorer and a successful leadership consultant. She is the author of the New York Times bestselling On the Edge and the executive producer of a documentary, The Glass Ceiling. She has ascended the highest peaks on every continent and also skied to both the North and South Poles. In 2010, she completed the Adventure Grand Slam by reaching the summit of Mt. Everest, after missing the peak by 200 feet, eight years earlier. Alison worked at Goldman Sachs before working as Deputy Finance Chair for Arnold Schwarzenneger’s successful campaign for Governor in California. She serves as an adjunct instructor at the US Military Academy at West Point and is currently one of the most in-demand speakers on the planet.

Alison Levine founded a nonprofit organization, the Climb High Foundation, which trains jobless women in western Uganda to work as trekking guides and porters in their local mountains, which allows them to not have to resort to prostitution. Well, that’s great!
But in that dramatic promotional video, the photo used to illustrate the fact that she climbed “Mt Everest, Asia, 29,035 ft” is actually of a mountain near Everest called Ama Dablam, which is 22,349 ft.
People who care about “successful leadership” set and attain high standards, and people who care about Everest know what it looks like.
I noticed that too, amidst the dramatic music, and wondered if that’s a view from Everest?
I climbed Ranier, Shasta, St Helens and Mt Hood. I always thought about climbing on the continents. Now I’m happy to climb out of bed and not have incontinence.
