Tucker Carlson on Trump and DC Republicans

Last night a friend of mine (a former Ricochet member) e-mailed me the following video clip. This clip is of a speech that Fox News host Tucker Carlson gave to the International Association of Fire Fighters back in March:

His description of DC sounds much like academia, and just as with Republicans in the former, most academic Republicans can’t stand Trump either. It is a matter of social class snobbery? Perhaps. But despite being an academic myself, I’ve never harbored such elitist attitudes. Blame it all on my roots.

I laughed when Carlson described life in DC involving regular two-hour lunches for which he never paid. Can confirm from my days working on a congressional staff aeons ago.

Will DC Republicans ever wise up?  Don’t count on it.

Even Tucker doesn’t get it.  What’s a housemaid?  Or a nanny?  Or an au pair?

Why would Congressional Republicans want to wise up?  They have the sweetest gig ever.

It is the American public that needs to wise up:

    1. Replace lifetime Congressional pensions with a 401k.
    2. Term limit the lot of them.
    3. Shut off the AC in their offices from May to September.
    4. Bonus: Relocate most of the bureaucrats in DC to other cities in the country.

You just have to relocate their jobs.  If you relocate them, we’ll have to pay for them to move.

@mikelaroche Thanks. That was fantastic! I sure hope someone in the administration watched that. I mean, what are they doing messing around with ‘The Mooch’ – a guy like that (preferably ‘that guy’) should be crafting the WH Communications strategy.  Or if those continual ‘Steve Bannon  is getting dumped’ rumors come to fruition – Tucker is the guy they should look to.

He’s got some very prescient insights in to politics, culture and the Conservative/Republican coalition.

Can’t believe this gem has been hidden since March.

Tucker is the best thing Fox has right now. This speech nailed it. I don’t even know what we can do to fix this.

Carlson: “Every decision should be based on the question: Is it good for America?”

This is Trump’s great gift to America. He’s getting people to ask this critical question.

Thank you, Mike! That was great! I was sorry when it finished.

Tucker Carlson has hosted shows on CNN, PBS, FOX, and MSNBC. His book “Politicians, Partisans, and Parasites: My Adventures in Cable News” is a very entertaining inside look! A fun, informative read! …Though I’m not sure I want to pick it up again. It might be a bit dated. And probably full of unintentional humor. A second reading might reveal a worried Tucker fretting about his new show being on opposite Donald Trump on NBC.

Very interesting that he doesn’t like automation because of its effect on the economy. I think this is wrongheaded and a little bit Luddite.

He wants to support more jobs and automation is going the opposite direction. (I’m not sure what the stats are for this — but, I think we have done pretty well on creating jobs even with automation everywhere.)

But, he doesn’t address at the same time where this is coming from — it’s the government overreach. The size and scope of this blood sucking behemoth is at the root of all large and seemingly intractable problems in America.

Thanks for posting this Mike. Also love that you have stuck to your roots.

Carlson gets it. However, I will never again hold a talking head in high esteem. Trust but verify every step of the way. Having said that, Carlson so far is a peach. :)

There are a lot of primaries where we should push the old guard out. The seats that aren’t safe — of course, those should be left alone but where possible we have to get rid of congressmen and senators who are part of the present sick system. We need a new system.

My congressman has been there 30 something years, and his father was there for a similar time before him.  Lately I’ve voted against him in the primaries, even though I agree with almost all his votes, because enough is enough.  Fortunately, he’s retiring after this term.  I just hope his son doesn’t run.

How about working more than three days per week? And taking away all those vacation days? My goodness, they might actually get something done if they were on the job. Then again, maybe not . . .

My mother has been a lifetime Democrat that voted for Trump.  As she said she voted for him because it is the first time she heard a politician talk about America as a great nation that she thought actually meant it.   All the others mouth the words but their every deed seem to say differently.

A lot would happen if they spread the government out some.  The problem is the concentration of wealth and power in one place.  Why could the pentagon not be based in Philly and the FBI based in St Louis, etc?

Imagine all those government workers and their groupie reporters forced into the wilds of flyover country.  Some of those cities only have Starbucks every couple of blocks and not on every street corner.  The horror.

I suspect they actually do work tirelessly.  You can not achieve their level of graft without a lot of work.  That is the problem, our politician are very hard working very smart people.  The are very resourceful at feathering their nests, They only help their constituents out when it suites them or they get something out of it.

They may “work tirelessly,” but are they getting anything done? A lot of energy can be spent spinning your wheels and helping the right people.

But they really are miracles: They’re able to speak without saying anything; work without getting anything done; and somehow amass great wealth doing public service.

There should be an Article 5 Convention of States, as proposed by the governor of Texas We have a majority of Republican governors. They could call for term limits, making congress forgo their pay until they pass a budget, make them live with the same health care we have to live with, and abolish their ridiculous lifelong pensions for starters. The members of Congress sure won’t do it.

Boy howdy. The inability of Congress to repeal Obamacare or even approve Trump’s appointees in an expeditious manner proves that DC is irretrievably broken. Doing an end-run around Congress via an Article 5 convention is the only viable solution, and President Trump should get behind it.

Need to be careful how you do that as part of the Constitution.  You don’t want the 2000 page kind that covers every detail.

“No member of government shall be immune to laws passed for the people.”

    Something along those lines.
