#NotMyFirstLady
It is well known that dictatorial regimes employ religious symbolism to appropriate God to their secular causes. The National Socialists in Germany in the ’30s (i.e., the Nazis) were an outstanding example of this, endorsing “positive Christianity” and asserting that “God is with us” on propaganda posters. The Trump regime has now taken the next step on their road to ultimate power by sending the First Lady of the United States, whom many until now regarded as an innocent, simpleton concubine of the great leader, to lead a mass rally of sheep in the Lord’s Prayer as a preliminary to a Trump rally.
So it begins.
Ms. Trump’s choice of prayer, also known to Christians as the “Our Father,” was clearly a deliberate attempt to invoke the idea of the Fatherland. The prayer is filled with autocratic, monarchial imagery of a subservient people, thanking the leader for a crust of bread and begging for pardon from the king. Numerous observant SJWs noted that Melania Trump, dressed in bright red reminiscent of the Nazi flag, appeared to read the prayer, and that her middle European accent was comical when it wasn’t blood chilling. Some even suggested that her hair was more blonde than usual.
Leni Riefenstahl could not have arranged a better motif and more convincing imagery for a dictatorship rally. But free Americans standing together for the rights of all races and creeds, for immigrants and for women and for the oppressed LGBTQ community are not duped by this vulgar circus. The case for impeachment is even stronger now with the wanton attempt by the First Lady to establish a state religion in violation of the first amendment.
Now is not the time to falter or sleep. Now is the time to maintain the #Resistance.
#NotMyFirstLady! Right on!

If you have nothing better to do than to insult our First Lady, then find a food bank or something to volunteer your services.
Cool yer jets, it’s a satire.
I didn’t read it that way….
A somewhat successful grab at humor by a Harvard Alumnus. I can only believe this is because you have employed an illegal immigrant to write your jokes. Please tell Yakov Smirnoff that he’s better than this.
Mike Stopa, Ricochet podcaster, is a longstanding and enthusiastic Trump supporter. Please consider the possibility that he’s being facetious here.
Whew!! That was close.
She’s been in the US for 20+ years and pronounces “earth” as “urt“.
The Donald needs to put the shock collar back on Melania and hand the remote fob to Professor Higgins. If there’s not substantial improvement by 2018, there’s still time to replace her for the 2020 election.
That may be true, but there are many who do not know that.
I regularly dismiss the hitler tropes as false and foolish.
We live in interesting times, and maybe a non-satiric post about #MyFirstLady would be a better representation of Melania Trump, and her husband’s administration?
Is there a star on his robe?
I think that’s a terrific idea!
Stopa could have done two posts in one, you know, including the alternative facts that the hitler trope leaves out.
Yes, he could have. OTOH, someone else could write a second post doing just that.
I thought this was pretty obviously humor . . . although we do have a couple of contributors who could post this word for word while maintaining a straight face.
This just shows how varied our membership is. If you know anything about podcaster and former contributor Micheal Stopa you would know that this is satire.
On the internet, no one can see your tongue is in your cheek.
And, boy, can I ever vouch for the accuracy of that.
To be fair, I just always side-swipe on account of Harvard. I do feel bad for Mr. Stopa — first the back 9 and now this shank — some days it isn’t worth climbing down from your Pennyfarthing.
(one more)
FYI neither Mike nor his co-host Todd Feinberg are at Harvard.
I’m done anyways. I actually like the (not at) Harvard Lunch Club. And if I had all over disdain for Ivy League schools, I would be insulting MIT instead.
It was alarming to read this–satire done so well that it seemed real to me. That the left is doing just this, that it is effective, that it seems so real, that the left believes all of this–it’s very clear why that’s happening from reading this tiny piece of satire. Imagine you are a Democrat and this piece and others just like it are all you read today.
The question now is, what the heck do we do about this? Holy cow.
We cannot let this sort of thing go. People will absolutely believe it.
We need to refresh our collective memories on how the Allies fought the propaganda war.
Perhaps it’s the mood I’m in today, but I find it really alarming that this type of propaganda is out there right now.
In the up-is-down world I live in, the people accusing the Republicans of being Nazis are engaging in Nazi propaganda techniques.
It explains why Facebook is filled with stuff like this every single day now.
In this sad day and age, when satire is no longer as obvious to a reader, Mr. Stopa has become quite adept at lampooning the Left (while alarming the right) as he produces prose that would get a thousand likes from those commenting on DU …
Of course, the OP could try to make it not so realistic … ala @michaelhenry ….
All together now … I’m Michael Henry the 8th I Am …
Just because it is easy for you to write posts and post them doesn’t mean it is for the rest of us plebes. :)
*Shank!!!* A touch! The red stream flows.
Look at it this way, half the people thought I was serious.
That’s why I sprawled out near the trap and declared: “Play through, Gentlemen!”
You did such a good job that you fooled me too, at least halfway through.
I’m glad you did it. It showed me how serious the problem is right now with what the Democrats are writing and reading.
There was a post yesterday, a different take on the same subject.
Wow. Thank you. I really love our first lady. I’m ambivalent a lot of days about Donald, but I really love Melania. So much courage and dignity.
Darn it, Columbo–now I’m going to be singing that stupid song all afternoon!
Everybody who (a) was fooled or (b) had a great laugh should go buy Michael a cup of coffee now!
