Excellent! Thank you.
I will accept nothing less than an appointment to the FCC. #MakingTelegraphyGreatAgain
Interesting that Trump hasn’t yet named his freebie choices in the economic domain (Econ Advisers Chair, OMB, Trade).
For the most part, they’ve been excellent picks. I am hesitant to support (actually who gives a rat’s behind who I support) Mnuchin. He comes from the same central left Keysnians that have been around. But I liked Trump’s economic plan developed mostly by Kudlow. It was one of the things that allowed me to give up my disdain to Trump. Let’s see how Mnuchin executes it.
But I have to say I find Rex Tillerson at State to be baffling. What experience does he have? Who the hell is he? I know, CEO of Exxonmobile. But for Secretary of State?
By the way, nice summary for us Jon.
The rumor mill has Perry for energy.
According to the left (and even some on the right) because Russia is calling the shots. Has any of the breathless assumptions about any of the picks panned out yet?
Hi Manny. I am sure by now you have been able to find out who Tillerson is and I hope you are warming to him. Remember, McCain and Graham are objecting (along with Rubio). That is kind of a plus for me. Also, how could he be anything but an improvement over Clinton and Kerry?
Seriously, McCain has been correct at least four times over the last 40 years. Maybe it’s his time again. Besides, he hasn’t been named yet. From Trump’s list, the only two that I strongly object to are Romney and Corker . My first choice is Bolton, but rumor has it that Bolton will be Deputy SOS.
I think it is healthy to bring in people from outside of government. As far as experience, ExxonMobil does business all over the world, often with foreign governments. And it is practical, as opposed to academic, experience.
Ambassador to the United Nations requires Senate confirmation. Otherwise, John Bolton would not have been blocked and appointed through a recess appointment. I think all ambassadors have to be approved such as the time when Jesse Helms blocked and prevented Bill Weld from becoming Ambassador to Mexico during the Clinton administration.
Some others like Trade Representative and Environmental Protection Agency might need to be confirmed too.
Ambassador to China has been named, if you want to add the ambassadors too.
Gee KP, it looks as if you are almost as enamored with these excellent choices as am I. You ability to disguise your joy is remarkable,
I always get talked about as if I’m not really a Member.
Goldman Sachs seems ubiquitous. What do we know about Mnuchin? Has he written anything? Has he spoken or written anything on economic policy? What are his view on the corrupt quagmire of bank regulation? It is not enough to repeal Dodd Frank. The financial sector isn’t a swamp it’s a swank yacht club that controls all the harbors. Is he a man who can dig into the deregulation we need in our financial sector or is he part of the problem?
That’s a mighty fine looking list you made there, thank you.
All ambassadors require Senate confirmation. Senator Dodd told the State Department who they could nominate for where from lists vetted with him. Jesse Helms had to play hardball in public. Dodd was a leftist, a crook and a degenerate and did most things behind the scenes often using a staffer who many of my colleagues thought was a Cuban agent. I’m so glad that particular swamp creature is gone.
Yeah, I can’t believe the head of the EPA with all the damage that agency has done and has the potential to do doesn’t require Senate confirmation.
He does require Senate confirmation…but thanks to Harry Reid, it only takes a majority (51) Senators. Next year 52 Senators will be Republican. Remember after Obama claimed there were 57 States, he got rid of 7 of those States by executive order. Thus only 100 Senators.
Why are you being a jackass? This was a simple statement of what the news headlines currently contain.
The EPA administrator requires Senate confirmation, which will be a tough fight that as AG Pruitt has sued the agency more than once.
What worries me about some of these picks (which are, on the whole, more good than bad, it must be said) is that it kind of reveals a pattern where the Trump administration seems to care only about economics and doesn’t seem to be paying attention to America’s other interests. Tillerson might make sense if you see diplomacy as a fundamentally economic issue, but there’s a whole lot more to State’s mission than just making trade deals.
Perhaps I did not know which Perry you were referring to. Jackass yourself.
We can’t really trust what the news is saying on the picks. Trump has misdirected the reporters and surprised many already, so crediting their assumptions (especially about Tiller) seems unwise. He’s still playing the media, which is solid entertainment.
That’s a low bar but it’s true that if he doesn’t think airconditioning is a greater threat than ISIS it will be an upgrade.
Yes, i heard that, but that’s ridiculous.
Yep. More of the hyperventilating, which Trump uses to his advantage. I may not like the guy, but it is still fun to watch the press’s ox get gored over and over again.
Good point. I think Mattis at Defense infuses the team with a solid “do-what’s-right” approach.
Please, both of you, cut it out. @cdor, don’t try to invent a reason for having an argument where there clearly is none. TKP, please don’t fall for the bait. Stick to the subject of the post, both of you, and don’t let this drag on.
“Better than Kerry,” is not good enough. The election is over. We need to stop comparing what Trump does to what the Democrats have/might have done, and start judging him on his own merits.
Yes. The minimum standard when comparing to the last 8 years is probably “not a communist.” We should hold our elected officials to a higher standard than that.
I think this was a misunderstanding and is over.
Great!
